Is the Mini Cooper Y Shapped Lower Splash Shield Necessary?

Hey there guys I just got a 2007 Mini Cooper S and unfortunately while checking out the undercarriage of the car, I noticed that it was missing the y-shaped lower splash shield on the right side. The splash shield looks like this from what I found on the internet https://imgur.com/a/QISeaw3 I was wondering if this splash shied is important enough to replace, or if can i go without it? Thanks!

It may not be 100% required, but it does help protect the AC belt

Yep just helps protect moving parts and bags from getting up there.

I have ran over by accident a dead deer and raccoon with this skid plate and it saves my MINIs underside as it skipped over the animal.
