Lower Heat Shield

Apologies if this has been discussed, but how crucial is the lower heat shield? Has anyone removed it? I just installed my downpipe and it's wrapped but the lower heat shield is held on by two bolts, i couldn't get any other back in. It isn't shaking and I pulled on it with force to see how loose it was, but I kinda just want to remove it. If the DP is wrapped, will anything be at risk for any real heat damage?

I left that bolt off as well. No problems.
