R56 Dropping the transmission pan
Dropping the transmission pan
I ended up drilling the subframe to get a tool onto the T27, but damaged it. I might have had to forego the filter part, and wasn't sure if I'd make things worse. A former Aviation Mechanic friend warned me not to use the easy-out I bought. If it snaps off, I'm boned. He loaned me a couple of low profile bits with knurled tips and 10mm hex heads.
What did it for me was a video I ran across:
By following this, I was able to lift the trans (it actually tilts), and had great access to the bolt and removed it. I actually found a M6x19 bolt, but it has a 10mm hex head, and fits the pan just right!
Lower Mount Torque is 84ft-lb
Now that I can take the pan off to service the filter, I'm diving in to access the fill bolt.
