High-pitched engine whine

Hey all,

My 2011 R56 S has a new high-pitched whine coming from somewhere in the engine bay. The frequency is too high for me to be able to localize it by ear. Anyone know where this might be coming from?


For what it's worth, this was immediately after replacing the high-pressure fuel pump, but I think I heard this once before I replaced the pump and didn't dig into it then. I could be misremembering, though.

My first thought was the friction wheel pulley's bearing. However, in your video the whine does not seem to be rpm-dependent.

Here's what the friction wheel pulley's bearing can sound like (best heard when coming on at 0:28):
