Changing The Rev Counter

Has anyone ever changed the rev counter on their R56?

I've got a 2012 R56 S and I am after changing the rev counter to the fJCW version because of the dark grey faces.

I purchased the sat nav/speedo unit and rev counter from a 2011 fJCW which was being parted out and have already changed the speedo unit. Now I need to do the rev counter which looks like a pretty easy job to do, but I've read that the rev counter needs coding to the car because of the odometer. I've also read of some people changing the rev counter without having to code them.

So has anyone on here changed their rev counter? Did you have to have it coded?
