R56 is 9psi boost safe?
is 9psi boost safe?
I have an 07 cooper s. I did a few mods including the aem cai with functional hood scoop, replaced hot side/cold side boost tubes with forge pipes, forge vent to atmosphere bov. My forge fmic is coming next week and besides that everything else is stock.
My boost question is if its safe to run 9psi? I read on the forums that stock r56 are making 12-15 psi. I was only making 7.5 with the yellow spring in the bov and swapped to the blue one and made 9psi. The weird thing is with the blue spring the car feels really really powerfull on the pull. In 6th gear its pulling like im in 5th.
It didn't feel like this with the yellow. I feel that the boost is being made quicker and held on longer so thus the power i feel. But i just want to make sure im not gonna damage anything with the 9psi. I am using an ultraguage to measure the boost. Please let me know. Thanks!

Here's a promising search. My apologies if you know this trick (using Google to search NAM).

I have been trying to tell him, via pms, I think he might have something wrong and to switch back to stock DV and see if his boost goes any higher. All my mods are in my signature and I hit and held 15.5 lbs of boost this morning in 6th gear 120-142 mph, stock tune. How hot and humid is it where you are? What are your intake temps vs ambient. Just wondering if your ECU might be pulling timing? I need a data logger, to log some of these morning runs I do.

I did a short drive last night (barely humid) with the ambient temp of 66F and intake temp of 77F. Few days go the weather was really hot like 89F and it said it felt like 100F. It was very humid and sticky that day. The gauge showed the ambient temp at 93F and the intake temps were high like 116-120F. I’m hoping the new fmic will help with intake temps. I know I should swap the old dv back and check. I’m just waiting to do that because that install was tough. It’s just those stupid screws which take so long.
An hour worth of work to see if something is wrong with your forge DV seems a lot easier than all the post and waiting. Honestly, you could have already had it changed out since we have pm’d. It took me 15 minutes to install my Alta boost spring and DV spacer, I know it’s all about the right tools and all but to me any time spent doing this to verify it’s not the forge unit, would be time well spent. Now if you see the same boost with the stock dv then you might have a wastegate issue. All about narrowing down why you aren’t seeing higher boost levels.

okay I will do it. Will do some runs and see how much boost I can get with the forge then swap to stock dv and compare. I’ll tell you the numbers. Also, when I raised the car to install the forge hot side pipe I noticed that the small elbow section of pipe that connects to the cold side of the intercooler had some rubber scratches/cracks or something. I didn’t think much of it and didn’t look closer. I think maybe it’s leaking some boost? Need to check that too. I saw the replacement was like $200 something.
