Assembling my project car for the spring, need the pro's to let me know if I'm missing anything, send me your recommendations. Rebuilt the engine, JCW pistons, new bearings, ARP bolts, new timing chain, JCW upgraded exhaust manifold, JCW k04 turbo, new clutch, Wavetrak lsd, installing new front and rear H&R sway bars, new power flex lower control arm bushings. Car already has JCW exhaust, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, rear diffuser, H&R coil overs. interior decked out in JCW bits. going to get RPM tune after complete. anything I have over looked or something you could recommend? short shifter thoughts?
Yes I was going to add it on later, head is out for porting and polishing, new guides, supertek valve springs, and new seals. Running Howerton meth on my sons car, works great!
replaced with engine rebuild, installing a external oil cooler as well! Ceramic coating turbo housing, manifold and downpipe. Vorgot to mention, vehicle already has aftermarket intercooler upgrade, and silicone turbo hoses
Progress Yeah!! short block together, JCW pistons, ceramic coated piston tops, re-coated side skirts, ceramic coated jcw exhaust manifold, turbo housing and down pipe. stuck waiting for cylinder head, guides stuck on us side of border due to covid 19. Wavetrak LSD installed, cleaned and painted transmission. removed lower control arms and front sway bar to install new H&R front bar, found out they shipped me the wrong one, doh. Somehow ended up with an E30 M3 front bar, R56 cooper s rear bar. Dont ask me how that happened, ordered a kit front and rear together. pressed off the rear control arm out of the bushings, going to press the old bushings out tomorrow at work and install my new power flex bushings. Cleaned up the engine bay, got new 215/45/17 Conti's mounted up on my OZ Superturismo's, ordered a set of Mishimoto hoses, thought i might as well replace them while im in there. Turning out to be more hassle than i thought it was going to be, but its getting there should be ready by mid next month, provided I can get the cylinder head back.
Got my cylinder head back today from Hayward Performance tonight, he replaced the valve guides, performance valve grind, Supertec valve springs and seals, he also massaged the ports. Lance does very nice work, first mini N14 head he's done he said they are very hard to work on because the ports are so small. I also cleaned and assembled the oil cooler assy and installed the exhaust housing on the turbo charger. Question do you think I should paint the head same color as the block or leave it raw aluminum, the problem with the raw aluminum is it gets grungy and its hard to clean. aftermarket oil cooler installed JCW Turbo and manifold Head work by Hayward Performance Paint to match block??? port close up Paint to match block???
I am starting on tear down of a N14 (not a "s") for rebuild. Normally, I am a big block guy and learning a lot. Valve set up on the N14 with “vanos” and
Is there a difference between a N14 and N14s?
Is there a mod to change the oil filter to a screw on?
Where are you getting your parts from?
Any words on the removal and install of Valvetronic System?

there is no such N14 non S...your engine must be an N12 which is fitted in the base models from 2007 to 2010. The valvetronic system requires a special tool to remove and install.

What are the difference n12 to N14?
Got the turbo part.
Are the heads the same? Block, pistons???
I've order the Bentley book but just asking.

The heads are not the same because the N12 uses the valvetronic system where the N14 does not. also, The exhaust ports are circular where the N14's are oval...
The blocks are also different. N12 does not have the turbo oil feed line port and it does not have the oil jets. The oil pumps however are the same
pistons are not same also, the N12 has a thinner connecting rod and the crankshaft balancing plates are smaller. the piston heads are different in the N12 as different impression than the N14. the cylinder head is the same though. the timing chain is different but the tensioner is the same...
newtis, info and realoem.com are loaded with info too

Your engine looks great. I wouldn't bother painting the head, but that's me. I'm waiting on the machine shop for mine...they are doing new valve guides, grind, deck and one seat. Lots of work for a 112k engine, but it was overheated. With any luck I'll get it back next week.
What are you using for manual. I just got the Bentley book and it has nothing on the bottom end of the motor. I was expecting it to at least have something. What are you using for the overhaul specs, toque valves, clearances...

Another advantage to using ARP bolts is they have their own torque specs --- not TTY bolts. During my re-builds, I used newtis procedures exclusively, but I've never heard of the others mentioned by zrickety either. Always good to have more than one source.
Project finally on the road. 07 Cooper S, engine blown previous owner. I found a JCW engine, rebuilt it, head worked by Hayward Performance, Supertek valve springs, ceramic coated the exhaust manifold, downpipe, and turbo housing, rebuilt the JCW turbo, aftermarket oil cooler, Alta intake, new clutch, installed wavetrak LSD, installed 27mm front H&R sway bar, Forge turbo blanket, GFB diverter, new EBC front brake pads and rotors, new Conti Extreme contact 215 45/17's. Previous owner installed Wagner intercooler, H&R coil overs, JCW body kit including rear diffuser, JCW shifter steering wheel, sills, park brake handle and hood carbon fiber hood scoop. Sitting pretty on a set of OZ SuperLegerra's. Back on the road runs great, previous owner also had ECU tuned, but I think I am going to get RPM custom with 22 PSI boost
Good job! I am just now seeing this. My project stalled when I couldn't get a good piston ring compressor, but I finally have the them back in the block. Head is ready to go on, I'll make great progress now.
