Speedo and tach issue with my 09 S

Hello, I am new to Mini and new to this forum and I need some help. I bought my 2009 S 2 weeks ago and love it. The only problem I had with it was the audio system is terrible so I decided to put in a double din with all new speakers and a sub. While I was at it I decided to change the battery, there was just an AAA battery from 2015 (no ibs) in there before and I went with the Auto Craft H5 AGM platinum series from Advanced Auto. I swapped the batteries out and had the + terminal on tight and just threw the - terminal on loosely to test out my stereo. I went in the car and lights started flickering and then I see the Mini on Lift symbol on the tach then poof nothing. The tach and speedometer do not work nor do the locks, windows, interior lights, or stereo. The car runs and drives, I have headlights, running lights, brake lights and the accent lighting inside, that's about it. What could be the culprit? Did I short something out by having the - terminal on loosely? I've read on here that it could be anything from fuses (I've checked them all) to the car shutting things down because it was starved for power, to the ECU being fried. I really don't want to take this to the dealer but I think that may be my only option at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mike

welcome to the forum.

did you try to disconnect and reconnect again?

did you make sure the speedometer (the big one) is actually connected?

was the double din a one-one map, in other words, did the wires connect to where they needed to connect as they would on the original unit?

Yep i have deisconnected and reconnected the battery several times. The Speedo is definitely hooked up as it was working at one point. And I used the axxess kit to preserve steering wheel controls and chimes so it’s wired to their specs so yes they should be all hooked upped correctly.

Yeah I could do that... it’s just such a pain to take everything out to swap the radio.
