I am going to look at a MCS next weekend. I called the guy today and I have two questions for you:
1. He said it had a new 'upgraded' engine installed at the dealer because the timing change tensioner failed on the first one. Is there an 'upgraded engine, and how do I tell if that is what is installed?
2. He said it doesn't have the buttons on the steering wheel and therefore does not have cruise control. That seems weird to me...did they come with no cruise control?

1. The dealer replaced like for like. Nothing upgraded. Assuming it was done at the dealer. I would ask for a receipt on that.
2. Welcome to the German (MINI is run by BMW) a la carte option fleece down. I don't know what the 2007 order sheet looked like but wouldn't be surprised if it had been an option. This is how you end up with an extra $10k worth of options on a car that starts in the mid 20's. It might have been included in a premium package. If it's missing cruise, it's likely very light on options. Make sure your must haves are there.

 

If the dealer did an engine you can call the dealer with the vin and find out the history as they can tell you exactly what has been done. I've had people say they got a new engine when they just got a timing chain as it gets lost in translation. Do this before you buy as this will have a huge effect on price and value.

Yes cruise was an option so it very well may not of had it.

 

I will look at all the documentation and maybe run a vin check with the dealer. Can I add cruise to the car with a new steering wheel?
