2007 MCS model question

Why is it that every time I look up a part for my 2007 MCS non-JCW vehicle, I get the wrong part?? For instance, Akebono Euro939's brake pads are supposed to fit my car and they don't. Appears the Euro1204's are the right pads. Does anyone know where I can find the engine designation number? Some parts seem to be differentiated by that. Thanks!

the 939 pads are for a GEN1 ....
"EUR939 - Akebono EURO Ultra-Premium Brake Pads [Front] Mini Cooper R50, R52, R53, R53C" http://www.dasautosport.com/khxc/Item/EUR939

many vendors miss the fact that the rag top was GEN1 until what was it 2009? While hardtop was GEN2 in 2007

The GEN2 HARDTOP in 2007, used the same front brakes that had been the GEN1 JCW upgrade.

IMO this is a reason to order from a MINI knowledgeable vendor and often times to order on the phone TALKING to someone as that may help prevent getting the wrong pars esp in the years where GEN1 and GEN2 overlap depending on body type.....

As far as I know That's the only engine difference .... GEN1 Dam'ler motor with supercharger

vs

GEN2 Peugeot with turbo . . .

I had a 2002S as a daily driver (and did my own work) 'til replacing it with in 2007 with a new S.....

I think I've determined that the engine ID for the 2007 MCS hardtop turbo is N14B16A.

The convertible MCS must be the "supercharged" with the engine ID W11B16A.

If anyone can confirm this...

Yep Doubleoh7

2007 N14 are the newer Gen 2 "Cooper S" MINIs Hardtops and then 2011 up are the N18, unless Factroy JCW carried over the N14 a little longer.

Gen 1 history:

W11 is the "Cooper S" of the Gen 1. Hardtop R53 ( 2002 -2006 ) Convertible R52 ( 2005-2008 )

W10 are the "Cooper" of the Gen 1. Hardtop R50 ( 2002 -2006 ) Convertible R52 ( 2005-2008 )

N14 are the Cooper S Hardtop turbo R56 (2007 - 2011 ) or 8/2010 to get technical.

2007 was the first overlap with the Gen 1 Convertible and the Gen 2 Hardtop. Convertibles where the "last of the supercharged" when MINI was entering turbo area on the S models.

So Gen 1 is "W" engines and Gen 2 are "N" engines.

Here is the 2007 R56 MINI Cooper S "Hardtop turbo" Brake Pads

Thanks and hope that helps.

Some websites like amazon has all the parts mixed up for 2007+2008.....
So best to say 2006 for a gen1 or 2009 for a turbo when looking for parts...or simply buy your parts from a place that knows the car. If, when you enter the car into, it doest not ask for hardtop vs cabrio...there WILL be issues in getting the right parts....and brakes get worse cause gen2 parts do fit some gen1 cars.....the owner must know if they have the JCW bbk for gen1...

Engine +/- brakes equals WHAT???????

That's originally what I thought too!! As far as the brakes, I thought it was a +/- JCW issue!

I saw the engine ID's used to distinguish between parts when looking for the break pads on FCP Euro (after I had bought the wrong ones), but started noticing the numbers for various parts.

This is a cut&paste for the oil filter:
2009 Mini Cooper Engine Oil FilterEngine base: 1.6L L4
2007 Mini Cooper Engine Oil FilterEngine base: 1.6L L4, Engine designation: N12B16A
2007 Mini Cooper Engine Oil FilterEngine base: 1.6L L4, Engine designation: N14B16A
Mini Cooper Engine Oil FilterEngine base: 1.6L L4, Engine designation: N12B16A
2008 Mini Cooper Engine Oil FilterEngine base: 1.6L L4, Engine designation: N14B16A
