Important limited Warranty info

I got a letter in the mail today from "Mini"----

What is a "OC3 seat occupancy mat"-- I have no idea of what they are talking about.
Whatever it is, I'm extended to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever occurs first,-----

I'm at the 10 year point right now---

Someone, please enlighten me---

Thanks,

Passenger seat sensor, tells airbag to explode if someone is in seat when you crash, or not.

the gizmo that senses someone sitting in the pass' seat to activate or turn off the pass side air bag ..... I believe

I got the letter today as well.

more important to many is if you paid for a repair on this, you may get reimbursed ....

Yep,

I did not get a letter yet, some people said they got one already. Yes is the sensor that lets the airbag system know someone is setting in the seat. I think it detects somethings is there with about 30lbs or something.

can you post up a screen shot of the letter? Would like to see it.

Finally! I have been waiting for this for two years. We don't have a dealer in my city so I'll drive 2.5 hours in a few weekends to get this replaced.

Thanks for posting that screenshot up. This should help people out that had to replace the whole seat cushion on the passenger side.

My local Mini dealer said it be 2-3 months to schedule an appointment for this, being a national campaign.

Interesting. Although I scheduled it for a few weeks from now, the dealer said I could come in as early as tomorrow to get it done...

I got the same letter regarding my 08 hardtop. I hope I can go to the BMW dealer. The Mini dealer is hundreds of miles away
Is this the same sensor that tells me to fasten my seatbelt when I put a heavy bag on the passenger seat.?

It says it's a warranty extension, not a recall. do they replace it free of charge?

this MAY cover the cost or repairs IF there is/was a problem. It will not replace a part that has not displayed a problem and not all failures will be covered. The terms are 'limited'.

I hope I can go to the BMW dealer.

IME BMW dealers will not service a MINI ....

Does anyone knows why after years Mini decide to send a letter to extend the warranty....why not a recall?
VERY IMPORTANT the letter says

10 years/120,000 whichever occurs first, as determined by your vehicle's original in-service date.
so if you have a 2011 but you bought in Oct 2010 then this warranty is expired.

Hi new member ... I'll try to give you some short answers without getting TOO into the weeds .....

Most 'recalls' are mandated by the government for BIG safety issues .... like the brakes will fail or an airbag may explode and kill you .....

This issue did not make it to that level AND it does not impact all cars (MINI) in the range of the 'extension' ... typically this means they have identified they got a batch of 'marginal' parts and have decided to cover the repair. These extensions are typically sent to cars that received the 'questionable' parts and not ALL ... I've rec'd this one and another covering the thermostat housing on my2015 Roadster . . .

And next is a matter of interpretation: you read VERY IMPORTANT to mean GET THIS DONE while I read it to mean this is important information as it may SAVE YOU MONEY!!!!!

wrt:
"10 years/120,000 whichever occurs first, as determined by your vehicle's original in-service date.
so if you have a 2011 but you bought in Oct 2020 then this warranty is expired."

No/yes/maybe ... the important words here are 'in service date' ... if you bought a 2011 and it's in-service date was in 2011 this extended warranty WILL expire in '21 <REMINDER .... this may not apply to your car AT ALL .... it IS VIN specific.> I bought a 2015 Roadster and was the FIRST buyer (after the dealer) in July of 2016 <yes, it sat on the lot for a year> ..... my 'in service date' is the day I bought the car ..... I get 10 years from July 2016 ..... ON THIS PART. If I sell the car the new owner will still be covered into '26 ON THIS PART.

***********************
p.s. Mini does not equal MINI when you are biMiNual ... my Mini and one of my MINI

Hi Capt _bj

Thanks for your replied. I made a mistake on the "original in-service date.
I meant to say is you purchased a Mini Cooper 2011 in Oct 2010 then this warranty is expired"

Just an update, I finally found all the internal part numbers for the Oc3 Sensor fix. Good for people out of warranty and don't want that dang light on.

You used to order the whole seat pad.
