R56 Passenger Airbag Seat Sensor
Passenger Airbag Seat Sensor
Hey all,
Took the seat out of my car recently to do some work. Accidentaly turned the car on and the light turned on. I put everything back together and reset the computer. The light went off and has stayed off. The only issue is with the occupancy sensor. When i push down with my hand the light turns on, but when a passenger sits in the seat it doesnt turn on. Seems to turn off and on when it wants to. Has anyone had this issue before? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Yes. I recently had an issue with a "bad airbag" light that came on most, but not all of the time (2008 R56). After trouble shooting with a knowledgeable technician, we figured out there is a damaged wire in the seat sensor. There is a grid under the seat to detect a weight on the seat of about 90 lbs; more than 90 and the airbag is activated, less than 90 and it isn't. A sharp pressure, like kneeling on the seat, can break one or more of the grid wires. My issue started after the car was detailed by a very large person that almost certainly kneeled on the seat. The upholstery needs to be removed to replace the grid. I am waiting for the part to arrive (3 month back order). Luckily for me, my car was under a used car warranty.
