Hood Scoop Question

Hello,
I noticed my hood scoop had a crack in it and the paint is coming off. So I decided to buy a new one, which I received today. However, I noticed there is a slight difference: the old one has screws, holes and attachments while the new one only came with just double-sided tape.
Has anybody seen this before?
Did i get the wrong one?
I saw it on two different websites and they both say its for my 2008 MCS.
How do I install it like that?

Do you have pics of the two so that we can see the visual differences?

the whole hood scoop should have the screws/holes/attachments

The old one is similar to the one you posted.

from the link you posted ... this is the item description

Chrome SC Inlet Surround - Overlay
Attaches to the top of the hood scoop

you bought a glue on cover that goes OVER the existing scoop ... does not replace it

this is the back side, correct?

you peel off the red leaving the sticky exposed ... then place in position over the "old" scoop and press down ......

straight off the link you provided ....

it won't (can't) fit flush .... and is only good if the old scoop is still solidly attached .... but it would help a crack from spreading I suppose.

++++++++++++
The other part mentioned ES#77840

is:

Primed Bonnet / Hood Scoop
Replacement for your MINI hood scoop inlet molding

Costs less but is UNPAINTED [primed, ready for paint]

Correct, the bakside looks exactly like that.
I think the old one is the original that came with the car.
Am i confused on the terminology? I thought these two were technically the same type of part, just from different vendors.
I am going to try this on the weekend, but i am not sure this will fit on top of the existing one.

Cat_bj - got it exactly right. When it installs it will be a little bit higher then the old scoop. Its an Overlay.

I dont have a good picture , but it sets up less then a mm above the stock scoop, if you set and on and press down, you can fill the gap.

If buying a new OEM scoop be very careful. its listed as [primed, ready for paint]. It is no where close to being ready for paint. It is indeed primed but needs to be sanded. Mine had a ridiculous amount of scratches on it. I had hoped the paint would fill them in, but i ended up having sand off all of the paint and the primer in some areas to get all the scratches out.

Just so we are clear.
This is my broken thing. Do I just place it on top of it?

Yes, you can just place it right over top. I would advise you replace the scoop instead of just covering it though. It will just continue to warp until more of the fasteners fail and your hood scoop falls off.

It looks like you have a 2007-2010. There is a heat shield for hood scoop that was added to the later cars to help prevent the warping. It is a direct fit on the 07-10 cars and ecs carries it.

looking at your pictures ....

don't glue (tape) to bubbled paint .....

I'd scrape/sand all the loose stuff off and then clean WELL

....

in general, before applying with tape you want the surface SUPER clean ... no dust, no dirt ... clean up with rubbing alc' .... many times a product that uses double sided tape comes with some 'wipes' to clean the surface ....

you want the tape to find a super smooth and clean surface

Thats the first outmotoring scoop ive seen not on their website. But i wouldn't recommend the heat shield. There have been way too many reports of melted valve covers with that.

Ok I tested putting it on top of the existing hood scoop and it doesn't look too bad.
How do I make sure this thing doesn't fly off while I'm driving?
