R56 Turbo timer and new turbo
Just sit in the car for a minute before shutting it down after either a long trip or spirited drive. There are some who have had them installed, but the car is so electronically involved that you need to know exactly what you need to be tapping into without causing immobilizer problems, etc.
Worth the money is a bit open ended, are you willing to tune the car, buy a proper intercooler, an intake that will work with the turbo, as well as understand the slightly higher needs your car will have by being tuned?

Avoid the GT28RS unless you're ready to spend a serious bundle getting it to perform properly. I've done it and have a monster power-plant, but could have bought a new Mini with the money I spent. Take a look at my build thread --- https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3240122 --- There are others out there, much better suited for the Mini.
Never messed with a turbo timer!

Bear in mind --- the only turbo I have direct experience with is 2 versions of Garrett. Both are awesome IF you have the money to implement them properly.
I've heard and read great things about the Owens turbo --- a hybrid out of the UK --- pricey but bolts almost directly on.
One of the smallest two Borg-Warner EFR series, I forget which, was recommended to me by Jan of RMW.
I've also read about a guy in Greece who's using a Peugot intake manifold and turbo with pretty good results --- almost a direct replacement.
And as BigBoost says, I haven't seen any bad reviews on Frankenturbo's product, but haven't seen any outstanding performance results either. Might be worth some research time.
Main consideration is spooling RPM (my opinion) --- Garrett's 2860 series is about 3500, too late for my purposes. 2 - 2.5K is the range I'd like to start spooling. Find one with smaller wheels, but larger than most of the ever popular K03 - K04 upgrades.
