The display for the stereo in my 2008 R56 disappears. It is the best and brightest earlier in the morning when it is cool. and it totally disappears when the weather is hot. Is it possible to remove and replace just the display.

 

I think if you search on fleaBay you will find folks selling them. The one in our R55 does this, but hasn't yet disappeared completely.

When we bought ours, I had to swap it out too. We bought that exact display from ECS Tuning. Also, buy a set of trim removal tools to prevent scratching up the dash. I think Mini uses #20 and maybe #22 or 23 torx bits. The two screws that were the most frustrating were the ones in the vents on top of the dash. I ended up cramming my head to the windshield to get a glimpse of their location. That took most of my time during the swap. It was the first time for me taking the dash apart and I did the entire process in roughly an hour.

These two videos were very useful for getting the unit out. Once out, there are 4-6 screws and 3 tabs in order to get access to the display. The display uses a type of ribbon connector that is very easy to change out. Just take your time and be careful.
