Front windshield - OEM vs Aftermarket

My front windshield is cracked.
An OEM windshield costs much more.
The installers claims that it's the same.
What do you think?

If they claim it's the same, but costs more, personally, I'd find someone else. Do some research and get a few different quotes and then decide from there.

Ah, that makes sense now. I've had luck with non OEM windshields, in fact that's all I've installed since and they've held up fine. Just do some research (check reviews and shop around) and find a good company that does the installs because you don't want one that does a hack job and breaks more when installing the new windshield. Also, make sure they get you the right one based on your vehicle info (rain sensor). Some good info in the threads below. Good luck.

note: OP is not in US

I've replaced many a windshield in my years and NEVER had it done by a dealer or worried about getting the glass from the dealer.

In the US there are only a couple of places that make auto glass and the markings they put on the glass depend on the 'contract run' they are working at the time

As P Parts says, I'd worry more about finding a good installer ... and again I'd mention that in the US, most dealers and bodyshops will sub-contract glass work to a glass shop and not mess with it themself.

I installed a non-OEM windshield in my R55S and it's been fine. I also tend to agree that you want an installer who has experience with Minis or European cars.

Non-OEM is fine unless it's installed incorrectly.

I have had excellent luck with non-oem glass - find a GOOD installer and you'll be fine.

Non OEM and an experienced, skilled shop at least 3 replaced and no worries...except where the next ballistic rock is coming from.

I currently have a Pilkington (installed by JN Phillips) windshield in my Clubman and it seems to be the same quality as the MINI. This is the third windshield on this car - the first two were MINI windshields.

The JN Phillips installer was great - I watched him do the whole thing, and he explained every step of the way.

Isn't Pilkington the OEM MINI glass manufacturer?
