Stock ECU vs Tuned Boost Question

I've been researching different tune options vs the JB module. Looks like Manic is my best option especially since I live 10 mins from M7s NC location. I have an 07 MCS 6 speed I purchased used with a Borla cat-back, Alta intake and BOV as far as engine performance is concerned. I've researched the forums and cannot find a definitive answer...what is the max boost psi an n14 MCS produces? On the Way site the JB module description states that it will increase boost from 8psi to 12psi. Now my MCS already produces 12psi (max). Am I missing something? Can my performance mods be causing this, is the JB description inaccurate or am I possibly tuned very conservatively? Any input would be appreciated.

If I am tuned, which I doubt, based on what I've read I'm assuming that I can still get a Manic tune since it completely overwrites the ECU. Does that sound accurate to those of you who know?

Thx

Boost figures.. always a tough one to discuss as people have different ways of describing them.

A car may have a peak boost figure on a cold wet night in 6th gear at 2500 rpm. That isn't the "boost figure" I would quote when describing what boost my car is running.

For me that would be a peak boost, not the held boost you are discussing.

For me a car might hit 12psi for a quick bit of mid range and as the revs rise it may drop back to 10psi and hold 10psi right through to 6,000 or 6,500 rpm. In that case i'd describe that setup as being a held 10 psi with a spike of 12 in the mid.

To me, I'm guessing your car is running standard boost.

If you go for a remap or some other way of getting more boost it may peak at 15 or 16 psi and hold around 14 all the way through the rest of the rev range... for example.

A remap is your way forward but be aware that the standard turbo on a 270 degree bearing is at it's limit at 1 bar (14.7PSI) in terms of reliability if you push the car hard. A 360 degree bearing would increase that reliability. You may be lucky and the turbo may last years or it may expire quite quickly.

Good luck. Modding is fun.

Thanks man, excellent response. 12psi is my peak boost.

"On the Way site the JB module description states that it will increase boost from 8psi to 12psi." Is it possible they mean it will increase existing boost BETWEEN 8 to 12PSI over your current boost? I can't imagine 8 to 12PSI being a desirable end result for a mod.

Regardless, given the choice, I'd opt for a Manic tune. As I understand it, the JB unit isn't a tune, it's just one more mod that needs to be tuned --- along with your current mods. Talk to your local Manic tuner for his suggestions.
