Coding a 2013 r56 mini

I am having a lot of fun with my 2013 Mini Cooper S that i purchased a few months ago. We also have in our family 2 VW's which i service myself. One is about 26 years old but is quite simple and easy to keep up. The other one is driven by my wife and is a 2011 VW GTI. I have used Vag Com on the GTI and earlier VW's to scan the cars and make changes in the coding to open up some great programs in the car. I was wondering if their is anything out there for the Mini. I under stand they use BMW electronics so it could be an easy job to update some of the programs that control the windows, Sunroof, lighting and other items. Could someone steer me in the right direction.

Thanks for any help you can give. Great site!

+1. And now the Carly app allows the R56 to read real time engine parameters and more. Can't get it to work properly with my JCW but it's there and I'm sure it will work great one day.

I prefer to use a program called NCS Expert. Much more extensive than the Carly app. You'll need a Windows laptop preferably running Window 7 64 bit and the proper DCAN cable. Finding a working cable can be hit or miss but installing the program is very straight forward. The first time you code can be a little nerve racking.

There are many threads here about NCS Expert. The search function on the forum sucks so I just use google instead. Something like "NCS Expert North American Motoring" should get you there.

If you want to go this route, once you find a cable, PM me and I can set you up with the program, datens and install instructions.

BTW, I also have a 2013 MCS.

I would love to know what NCS Expert can do but the Carly app on ur IPhone? Can't get easier. The question is does he want a long list of what both methods can code or does he simply want his mirrors to fold in, or another simple change, and he's good to go? Carly allows maybe 100 various things to changed/recoded give or take but I'm sure there are more items to code than the Carly allows. The Carly seemed to have a decent amount to code and I am ok with it.

I want to thank everyone for the prompt reply. Yesterday i contacted Carly to purchase their adapter and they told me i could order the same thru Amazon and save transit time. I contacted Amazon and they have the adapter for the Android phone and for a limited time you can get $5.00 off their selling price of $30.00. I will give this a try when i receive it to see how it works. I used the VW Vag Com program for years and was a great help in keeping the family VW's out of the local VW dealership. I would not own any car that i could not access the operating systems by myself. Great forum i will visit when ever i can.

Hello guys...
Ive seen this thread is 5years back so im not going to open another one.
I also have an R56 N18 JCW and there are several things that seems to be able to fix it/code it but apparently it isnt.
1.I want mirrors folding when i lock the car and unlock when i unlock the car. I press yes/enable etc coding and then nothing happens..either if i fold them and unlock the car either i lock the car(not folding).
2.According welcome lights...I want the side/flash(orange) light up when i unlock the car but the ONLY way to do it is to enable also the rear signal(orange) lights...So when i just enable the side/signal and i unlock the car the light is off but if i enable also the rear signal lights to open as welcome lights..Then also the side signal is open.

Any ideas?

Thank you!
I have Carly via iPhone

If you've tried coding it already then most likely you don't have the hardware and/or software from the factory to enable you the activate it.

1. If you have electric folding door mirrors then you can buy plug n play module or universal kit to enable you to do what you want.

2. Unlikely to be able to control the lights that way.

Side repeaters are not independent of the front/rear turn signals, that's why you can't have one without the other.

The R56 side mirrors do not go through the computer, they are only foldable through the switch. To have them fold and unfold with locking the doors, you need to add an additional module to bypass the door switch. The Countryman is wired differently, and will allow the foldable mirror feature. So, even through its in the Carly options list, it isn't actually available.

Plug n play module, whilst not cheap will be the simplest

https://www.dwf-auto.com/products/mi...r-retrofit-kit

or cheaper option, any universal kits from ebay, Amazon, AliExpress etc... if you're handy with wiring.

Not from the plug n play module, but maybe you can try the Carly app to see if it has the option.

Im planning to get my R56 coded (2013 base coupe) and deactivate the cold bulb check to allow me to change the halogen bulbs. While I was at it, what other goodies could I activate (or nuisances I can deactivate)?

Ideas appreciated

Seriously, once you're in the app, just surf around and see if there is anything you want to modify.

I set my r58 to one touch up close. I dont think it will work with only selecting one window.

ECSTuning, I worded my question incorrectly. I wanted to know if the tool will re-calibrate my window that won't close correctly (goes to top and comes down halfway). Seems that I'd need a program like INPA to achieve that. I was hoping for a simpler solution. Thanks

Yes, thats more of a fix thing https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...t-stay-up.html
" With window in down position, press toggle up and hold it for 10 seconds or so when window reaches top position. Now press toggle down and hold again for 10 seconds."

Thanks, but that never worked for me. The last time I had my MINI at the dealer, they re-initialized the window. It worked properly for about 3 weeks and then started acting up again.

Hi guys, i have a 2013 Mini Cooper S and i am wondering what is the best tool to use to code the Mini for things such as switching to xenon headlights, or other things you can't do with the Shwaben scantool N510 elite. For long term ownership i am looking to have the best tools and software for this platform.
