Cold Air Intake?

Hey there... So far I'm loving my new 2007 Mini Cooper Base.

I was thinking of putting on either a K&N drop in filter to replace my paper filter in the stock box or going with this cold air intake.

http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...?prod=57A-6033

Your thoughts?
pro's or con's to any or is there another that is better?
Or should I stick with stock and stay happy?
Thanks so much,
crosby

On the Non S Cooper the intakes make good power and throttle response. On the S not so much.

We use the DDM Cooper Intake as we dyno'd it at 8ft lbs torque at the front wheels and a really cool sound.

If you don't want to go with a complete intake go with just the dry drop in filter.

No matter which way you go we always recommend the dry filter option as it won't get any air filter oil in your MAF sensor which can make it read wrong or cause a check engine light.

Oh wow I like the looks of that for sure...
I would much rather go with the complete intake.
Does this do anything to the gas mileage either way?
Thanks for the link to....

There is also the K&N Typhoon system: Its a little louder / feedback then the closed box system. Estimated Horsepower Gain: 4.1 HP @ 5300 RPM from K&N. People have reported slight / marginal gain in gas mileage, but nothing major. : 692005TTK

Thanks ECSTuning... I'm really liking the DDM Cooper Intake option...
The dry filter and closed system is appealing to me. As long as it doesn't hurt my gas milage..

You are welcome. Let me know if you need anything else. We do have AFE drop in dry filters if you like.

Is it possible to get any of these systems without a filter? I'm no fan of K&N, would prefer something more like an ITG. I'm not even entirely sure ITG makes the right size, but I don't see the point of buying a K&N I don't need/want.

You can get them and measure it ( put the K&N on the shelf , then call ITG or Pipercross ( we have them ) and swap it out for a universal.

We don't recommend the ITG as we have had more than I can count just fall apart into little pieces. And we don't want to suck that into the engine. Hense why we had the dry filters made for the intakes.

If you're just wanting a filter, look into Pipercross Performance Air Filters as they make some great quality product.

I was thinking on changing my Cooper s R56 airbox, and replace with JCW airbox and install and IGT conic filter. I also have a direnza Sport CAT.

The goal here is to improve a bit the sound, and maybe some extra power on the lower reps.

My exhaust is stock for now.

Sorry I'm a bit confused? I'm sure I didn't give you enough info.

I was looking at the DDMworks intake with the dry filter?
I believe thats what you guys originally said would be a great way to go.
My question was will I be ok in California being CARB compliant?

I hope this doesn't come across bad, thats not my intention at all. What threw me was your reply about the K&N?
thanks

Sorry they are not CARB compliant, I could get another intake for you if you need that, but I like the DDM the best for performance and the dry filter.

Its ok,

Was showing you the K&N and its carb compliant. That's all. So it gives you another option since you want a compliant intake.
