Wheel Selection Advice

I am looking to get new rims for my father/son project. I have in mind some AVID1 AV03 rims which are 16x8.5. My question is would these be direct fitment to my 09 cooper? or would I have issues with them?

I have seen a set on Ebay which close in the next few days so any advice would be really appreciated

thanks

Paul

I'm pretty sure the stock fitment are 17x7 so on that model so the 8.5 is pretty wide. Not to mention there's going to be ALOT of wheel gap with 16" wheels. Do you know what offset they were?

Strong, light, cheap, pick two...

Unless you are going to fender flaires, 8.5 isn't going to work.

On the contrary. There are numerous members on here running an 8.5" width wheel. Even a guy running 16x9. The question is in the offset making sure you can clear your strut. I myself will be mounting an 17x8.5 but had to run a lower offset to clear and also top and bottom camber arms to make everything work.

To the OP. Unless your planning on spending a lot of money and do some trim work in your wheel wells. That wheel is probably something you'd stay clear of. And btw. Please... Please don't call a WHEEL a "rim"

Yes the Width is pretty wide. I haven't heard many people use 8.5 unless your offset is under 25et, which then you need to work with the fenders and suspension. Also you will need to use very narrow tires to stretch it out... 195/50/16.

As for 'wheel gap' ... its all the same from 16 to 17 to 18. As long as you follow the proper profiles of the tires. Take a 205/55/16 tire on top a 205/45/17 on top of a 205/40/18 tire. they will all stack up evenly.

Anyways.. if you are going with 16 inch. Stick with 16x7 with 205/50/16 tires. Offset of 40-45 will work fine on stock suspension. I have the same specs but on a et42 with 12mm spacers in back and 8mm spacer on front lowered with 1 finger gap left.

These wheels have a 17mm offset ... way too radical for a MINI.
