N18 or n14 is the question

Hey I have a 11 JCW built in late 10. How can you tell if you have an N14 or N18 engine?

Thanks - Mini newbie learning as much as I can while my JCW is being built again in the body shop in Dallas.

Mid 2012 is when BMW switched to the N18 on the fJCW's.

Thanks overclick

hahaha sad day.

Trying to see if the CarMax warranty will cover changing that cam chain. Going talk to the dealer.

Also try to get rid of the car and trade in for a 2012 JCW or MCS while it still has juice in it.

Yep N14.

MY LA MECHANIC says not a problem if you keep it well oiled and topped off.

Mini doesn't include the timing chain repair campaign on JCW's.

Replace timing chain on mcs?

Hmmm

Wonder why?

Have you had to replace the timing chain on your 07 MCS?

It's Overclock

There's a GP2 with 6k miles at a Carmax in Los Angeles. $31,998 no haggle price

Yep at 47,000 miles, you could hear the timing chain hitting the plastic guides which were found in the oil pan. I paid for it and 2 years later I was reimburse my deductible for my extended warranty. I wish I hadn't used up my one-time token to have my timing chain components replaced because if it happens again I'm on the hook. I have heard many member's with JCW's get denied.

Thanks overclock

Typed that carefully so as not to drop the L. hahaha

HEY!

I checked out that GP in LA. I'm from LA but in Dallas right now. Little too pricey for me but there's also one in Ontario. White with Chili Red accent. Way cheaper. $22K.

Not sure if sticking with JCW is the way to go anymore. S is just as good right?

I'll dig into this tomorrow but I need to get my current JCW out of the body shop since it was hit on PCH in Malibu.

Not sure if the accident would show on CARFAX. Maybe they won't trade and I'm stuck with the car.

But I'll also pursue the replacement angle with the dealer through the CARMAX warranty. My service tech in Dallas seems hungry to go after warranty service work.

JCW and S are basically the same right except for added trim perks. Not sure why they would discriminate.

Car is blue book at $20K since there's only 35K miles on it.

Seems to be a lot of guys living with the N14 turbos. Resigned to replace I guess.

That's a crazy good price on that Pepper White JCW.
2013 JCW

Once you go JCW..there's no going back. More power, the jcw aero trim didn't come standard until 2012 I think. . 2013 JCW is what I recommend. I came from a 2010 MCS and I immediately felt the difference in power.

Nice line - mind if i steal it

That's a good one Overclk. Once you go JCW . . . hahaha
[my JCW is metallic black hahaha]
Yeah that is an insane price for that car. Looks sweet. Although they all do at CarMax. Who knows till you see it in person. Nice trim. Even has the fog lights on the bumper.

I paid $23K for mine plus the warranty which you can use as a down payment - $2K. $25K total. Now it blue books for $20K because I ran up 11,000 miles in under 4 months driving the hell out of it between Dallas and LA.

I'm going to work on a trade-in along with getting this JCW timing chain assembly replaced once I get the car out of the body shop.

CarMax has gems. Cost me $400 to ship my JCW in from Kansas. But I was picky about getting a 6 speed which they have few.
