R56 Yellow emissions light on ODB scanner
Yellow emissions light on ODB scanner
Hello all
This afternoon I had the check engine light appear on my 13' R56. I ran an ODB scan on it, and the code was P0128 (Coolant temp too low) - this is the first time I've seen it, and I'm hoping it was a fluke.
I noticed that the emissions light on my scanner (Innova 3100) was Yellow (options are Red, Yellow, Green) - has anyone run a scan where their emissions light came up yellow when there wasn't anything wrong? There aren't any additional codes in the Mini's system indicating there is anything up with the emissions system, and it's persisting yellow on the scanner, even after I cleared the P0128 code.
(Edit: about 47k miles on the car, no other issues thus far. It's currently kept outside, and it's been dipping down in to the mid 20s at night)
Thanks!
Michael

Thanks...unfortunately I'm out of warranty and in hoping to diagnose it myself. What's odd is that the yellow emissions light on the scanner persisted even after I cleared the code
I believe the R56 has an electronically controlled thermostat - it might be
either that or the coolant temp sensor, which is attached to the thermostat
housing. You can at least see if the connector to it is attached properly if
you can get to it. I have an R50, so I can't tell you first hand.
Here's a diagram for the R56 Cooper S - the Cooper shows the same part no.:

Thanks all. You're right. I have a couple K before the warranty ends. I've got a call in to a service advisor. It's only thrown the code once, so it's possible it was a fluke

Quick update - it was the temperature sensor that went south...but in giving it a look, the dealer determined the water pump had a leak as well, so they're fixing that now as well.
Thanks for everyone's input - glad I was able to sneak this in right before the warranty expired
