R56 JCW or M235i?
Coming from a modified, high-powered M car (Z4M, mind you) I can understand the attraction here.
The Mini and specifically the R56 chassis is very, very fun. Let's not consider reliability at this point, but more so the pure driving enjoyment. My JCW with ~270hp / 300 ft lbs. is way more fun on A DAY TO DAY basis than my ESS Z4M. It's also $45k fully loaded brand new, which I would NOT pay, especially given what I know about these cars now. They are AWESOME fun, but are not for the average individual who can't stomach a Euro repair schedule
Having said all that, the new M2 may very well be my first new car. I also really like the new F56 JCW, but will wait to see what the community is like for the new car before I anticipate owning one. I've heard the fun factor is turned down from the R56. Still undecided, but leaning towards keeping the R56 for a few years, albeit with an extended warranty.
M235i is best bang for the buck, no doubt, though.

My DD is a 2013 JCW Coupe,my Sunday car is a 2008 135i with a Dinan stage 2 upgrade. It has increased the HP to 378 and 415 ft of tourque and is a very nice car. The reason the Mini is my DD because it is a fun car to drive.
Q
My brother owns the 135i Dinan m3 convertible, before that it was a 135i hardtop. I cannot compare it to the jcw as I have a 2011 mini s. But I can say his base 135i had no competition to my mini S, yes it was still more powerful and turned corners beautifully but I still preferred my S to drive. Now that he has the Dinan m3 I do enjoy taking it for a spin every now and then.
I know he has mentioned how he would like to trade for the 2 series eventually but right now he is in love with his Dinan.

How did you get 270HP and 300Ft/lbs of torque out of your Mini?

Good feedback, keep it coming.
Yes, agree...the more I am driving the mini the more I am enjoying! It is a blast to drive.
The car I purchased is in excellent shape, and I have a warranty to 100K almost as comprehensive as mini warranty.
BUT
I took a look at the 235...mistake! The smell alone I was ready to buy on the spot ,lol not really but thinking more now.
Ideally it would be great to have both, my wife says go for it, but I don't like the idea of two car payments.
And..it is nice to have the full warranty and maintenance. Currently I will be spending some out of pocket and time on mine, so it is easier to justify in my small mind the 235.
I.e. Walnut blast, coil over & install, cravenspeed short shift, rim dip, heated seat retrofit, so on and so forth.
I am still on the fence, but either way will not rush out to get one until there are some deals to be had
