Mud Flap Installation

So I ordered a set of Rally Armor mud flaps(2 for front, 2 for back). They get here on Monday and the details of the product said that it did not come with mounting hardware. Has anyone on this forum ever installed Rally Armor flaps on their Mini? What hardware sizes and materials did you use? I have a '07 MCS and I'm eager to install them, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Yup, I added them to my Clubman.

I used plastic pop rivets up front. Drilled carefully into the fabric liners... Not hitting the metal wheel wells.

In the rears I used stainless 1/4 bolts and nuts. Again drilled into the fabric liners.

I'll add that I made up cardboard templates -then transferred the markings to the Rally Armor with black sharpie - so they fit level and side to side.

They really do a fantastic job of protecting the paint and keeping the car much cleaner - including the rear glass of the car.

Thanks a lot those look awesome! I'll go to Lowes and pick all that up. Did you have to remove the wheels?

And is it absolutely necessary to do the templates? Or will they fit pretty well without cutting them?

I did pull the wheels. It was just easier to get in there with a cordless drill and a 1/4" bit.

As for the templates... I didn't cut the flaps. The flaps are big, and thick plastic.. (which is good!). I made the templates (cardboard, pizza box thickness) so I could draw and hold them up with tape, see how they sat on the car. I then drew a line against the body line on to the template. (the front and rear arches of the car don't follow the same angles, plus I wanted to have the rears out more than the fronts a tad.).

Once I had the left side of the templates done, I made mirror images of them.

I then cut out my "body line" off the templates and transferred that line with black marker onto the flaps. This way I knew just where to line up the new flaps to the body so all 4 fit correctly and symmetrical.

Held the flap up to the body against the line I made, drilled a fast hole, mounted it. Double checked it, drilled another, checked it.. and then two more.

Each flap is held in with 4 bolts or pop rivets.

They curve quite a bit inside the wheel wheel, but thats all good added protection and "meat" for the mounting points.

Thanks for going into such detail, that's exactly what I wanted! I think I'm going to do the cardboard method as well, seems like it'll save more time. But I have one more question did you pull the plastic carpet-lile part forward to put nuts onto the bolts?

Yea, it's very forgiving. So you can muscle it around and Pop it back into place. I think I pulled out a few plastic pushpins to move it (later reinstalling them).

No real "mounting" points to line up with, so random holes work fine. No one can see the bolts well enough to criticize them.

Just bought a set! Now, do these mount to the plastic fender extensions, and sandwich the fender extensions to the inner fenderwell "fuzzie" parts? 2011 R56S. Sorry for the possibly dumb question, but my Mini is off at the dealer for some minor warranty work. I do have a 2014 Countryman loaner, so if that is similar, I could just go and look.

From what danjreed has told me, I'm pretty sure they bolt into the fuzzie carpet fender walls. But I could be wrong!

Got it finished yesterday just before it started to rain. I'm happy with the result. Let me know what you think.
