R56 Base Cooper Ultimate Oil Test

Testing out a bunch of oils under various conditions. Oil discussions always pop up, thought I'd back mine up with UOAs from Blackstone Labs. Not all the samples are going to have the same # of autox runs and the same # of miles on them, so it's not going to be a 100% direct comparison but I think eventually conclusions can be drawn. I'll be taking more samples and adding to this thread as time goes on.

http://r56hs.com/2014/09/11/mini-coo...-test-ongoing/

Thought it would be easier to see if I broke it down this way - I will continue to update here as I get more test results.

Definitions

OEM Mini Fluid - 50 Runs, 1,108mi
Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 - 55 runs, 3,436mi
Amsoil ZROD 10w30 - 83 runs, 2,224mi
Amsoil Euro 5w30 - 71 runs, 1,064mi
Amsoil SSO 0w30 - 66 runs, 1,324mi

Why are all these oil comparisons being posted
Is there some advantage to paying for an oil test
He who gets 2 extra miles out of an oil change win something
I'm just asking cause there are literally several hundred threads about oil change time/miles and tests and they are all different
How the heck did folks ever get through the year back in the day without talking about their oil changes across the inter web every other day?
Remember old nan Walton of the walmart Walton's
Billionaire with the old beat up ford
Little I've 300,000 miles
Said he changes oil once a year every year and it never missed a lick

If my wife was as high maint and concern as the oil change/use was here at NAM....I'd trade 'er in and get one of those new oilless cars

like i said in the original post... this is to determine the oil that best serves my purposes for my needs. i'm simply sharing my results and findings. the advantage is to know exactly how something is doing, instead of just saying "this is what I use"

and frankly it's not a matter of why - that's a separate discussion. these are just my results, and a little more comprehensive than people who "trust" an oil without ever sending in UOAs.

One thing to note - the Mini 5w30 is, as people speculated, fairly thick as far as 5w30's go - and is thicker than the ZROD 10w30, which is known to run a little thicker itself

I doubt you know anything more than you did before sending off for the Blackstone tests.

you cannot "know" anything conclusive from the data, of course. but you can make some inferences. Always better to have the data, always. Better than making blind claims about an oil, no? My car and my money. I'm just sharing the results, which I thought some people may appreciate.

yes, you get the data for exactly what the oil did and exactly what the wear is, that you "know." but you won't "know" conclusively if an oil in general is better or worse.

i don't care to play these little word games with you. if you don't care for oil tests, no need to comment here.

"Yes" is not a valid answer to my question.

I'm a big fan of going with oil analysis through Blackstone Labs. Looks good.

Thank you for sharing the your oil analysis with all of us.

As for jcauseyfd you can click on unsubscribe if you're unhappy with the data.

Kyoo,
Thanks for providing the data. It is just another piece of information that will make me a more informed MINI owner.

Yes, thanks for the three different tests you posted. It made me research something I had been curious about but never knew what it was other than letters on the bottle, which is the API rating.

Talk about truly useless information: it's your pointless trolling commentary in an intelligent thread.

i followed up with the increase in wear in Tin on my last sample, and basically they said that it's usually a sacrificial coating on a bronze part, so I may have slightly more wear there than usual. anyone else have tin in their samples on any meaningful level?
