R56 Something is leaking?
Something is leaking?
Hey all,
I just purchased my first mini in May of last year and I love it (although, it does seem to have some spendy repairs). I noticed some drips on the driveway the other day and peaked underneath to see this part dripping. Can anyone fill me in on what kind of fluid it is? I checked some of my fluids and it looks like my engine coolant is low (although this isn't located near where I fill the engine coolant). Insight? Is this a cause for concern?
Thanks,
Michele

Is it coming out of that hose? I think that may be the a/c drain hose. If you've been running the a/c and then park your MINI it will drip, It could also be the thermostat housing. Its plastic and prone to wearing out over time. It's located on the upper right side(when looking at the engine) and when it starts to leak it drips down onto the transmission and then down to the ground. It's hard to see if it's leaking just by looking at the thermostat housing.
If u are talking about that oval shaped hose, that is the drain for the ac /heater box It is normal to drain water. BUT. If u say you are low on coolant it may be a heater core leak. You need to identify the fluid. If it's blue /green and slippery then it's coolant. If it's clear and not slippery then it's just water. I if u are getting a sweet smell in ur car that is also a sign of heater core /coolant leak
