cooling fans no longer come on after changing plastic reservoir

The plastic reservoir started leaking and I bought the new plastic tank and installed it. I asked if the system should be burped but the parts dept didn't think that would be necessary.

After installing it which fixed the leak the axillary cooling fan no longer comes on.

Is that a sign of air in the cooling system? Or is it another issue?

I'm worried because of the temps now are getting higher and there's no temp gauge with these cars.

In Portland OR. Its getting into the 90's and the fan used to come on even in the winter. So I'm concerned. Don't use the A/C. I'm trying to see if burping the system would have any effect but although I found the factory instructions in another thread I can't find the bleeder screw for 2007 R56. I see the housing it talks about but do not see any screw.

R56 Cooper S 2007.

Just found the bleeder screw as per the doc. Went through the procedure but not sure if it did anything. I didn't see air bubbles. I'll take it for a run.

I don't think there is much to worry. I also have a '07 S. The cooling fan comes on rarely. I live in Iowa, so it gets hot and humid. About the only time the cooling fan comes on is when sitting in a parking lot or in a drive through for an extended period. More so with the A/C on. I also rarley use the A/C. It never comes on in the winter. It sounds to me that you may have fixed an issue you didn't know you had.

Thanks for the info. I would love to know that's true. Ever since new the fan would come on. I thought since we previously lived in a hotter climate that was normal. When it did it in the winter here I was surprised. We had the Mini dealer replace a leaking water pump and it still did it. I'll bleed it once more and see. I know the old tank prior to leaking held pressure because I stupidly opened it a couple times when the engine was hot.

Spoke to the dealer and the shop forum asked if I disconnected the sensor while changing the reservoir. I only disconnected the hoses but I guess anything is possible. Do you know what sensor/plug he could be referring to?
