weird turbo issue.

I recently got my turbo rebuilt by the folks at gpop shop. The turbo sounds like it has a new lease on life and felt strong for a short while. Now the turbo will barely spool and if it does it spools right back down again. It is almost as though the car is trying to protect itself from something.

I have also been suffering from a half check engine light which I still have no idea on the root cause.

Has anyone seen this before? Is it the ecu learning about the newly rebuilt turbo?

Your car is in "limp mode". If you have a diagnostic/code clearing device you can clear the CEL and you'll be good.

did you replace your cat after turbo failed ? If not you probably trashed your rebuild.

The turbo didn't fail. I just had it rebuilt to K04 spec for better spool up and strength.

And I did buy a code clearing device which was a waste of money because that was all it was good for. The device wouldn't read the half power limp mode code. I sent that device back and am sticking to my DimSport ECU flash tool for clearing the codes when I feel like it. It is a real pain since they come back the minute I want to open the car up on my ride to work.

Hi!
Are you able to check the boost?Scangauge or some other OBD device. If the pressure drops to after midrevs the problem may be a vacuum leak.First check all pipelines and check under intake manifold couple valves,"tank air vent valve
13537543285 and "Pressure converter 11657599547".I had a similar situation after replacing the turbo, at first everything was ok, but then the boost problems. The valves can be electrically ok, but mechanically broken, loosing boost pressure or vacuum proplems with turbo wastegate control.Sometimes divert leaking, but it makes CEL... Good luck!

I checked the vacuum tubes that are visible on the top of the engine bay and ended up taking my oil catch can out of the picture to see if that was causing the issue. I cleared my CEL by re-flashing my ECU with the tune.

Everything was fine for a while but now the turbo won't even spool up. No CEL yet but absolutely no boost.

This is f'in infuriating. Gonna try the dealer tomorrow to see if they can pull the code and solve this thing.

How are you verifying no boost?

All intercooler plumbing still attached and tight?

Is your wastegate stuck?
