trouble changing spark plugs

So I decided it was time to change my spark plugs. This is the first time since I've owned the vehicle.
I did some reading and went out and got some NGK Iridium spark plugs and a matching 14 mm 12 point thin wall socket.
When I went to make the change i discovered that the spark plugs that the car came with are different.
The 14 mm socket it too small. It just spins over the spark plug.
So I went out and got a 15 mm socket, but it was too big, it didn't make it all the way down to the spark plug.
Lastly I got a 9/16 socket, but this one also sits on top of the spark plug.
Any idea on how I can get my spark plugs out?

Should have the long 14mm 12 point socket and matches head on the spark plugs ?

Whats does the plugs look like ? And what model,/ year do you have ?

Thanks

I forgot to mention the spark plugs that are in there right now are only 6 point, not 12 point.

It's a 2007 MCS

Do you have and 2007 R56 MCS ( turbo ) Gen 2 or the 2007 R52 Convertible S ( supercharged) from Gen 1 ( which takes the 6 points) . Just want to make sure you are talking and are in the correct forums. We don't even carry 6 points plugs for the Gen 2 MINIs, just 14 points.

Thanks

Must be aftermarket , brisk plugs or something. That's the only ones I can think of. They take a 5/8 socket I believe. Thanks

Though it was the 9/16 socket you tried. Did not know if you tried the 5/8. Can you look down the tube and see what the plugs say on the side. Like brisk or something.

Thanks

I tried the 5/8 a few days ago when I first decided to do this.
I could not really get a good view down the tube to see anything onthe sides of the plugs.
Though I think that the problem might be the type of socket i'm using.
The 14mm socket went down the tube with no problem. But I just noticed that the 9/16 socket doesn't actually make all the way down to the plug. They're both 1/2" sockets
I'm going to try to find a 3/8" 9/16 socket and try with that
