R56 Engine light came on after putting a cat back on it
Engine light came on after putting a cat back on it
So i was given a scorpion exhaust, cat back, i put it one and welded the stock muffler to it. it lasted about 2 days before the engine light came on. Also, occasionally the rpms will drop then spike. Im assuming this is from the increased exhaust flow and less back pressure, or the ecu trying to compensate for the increased air flow. Basically, I'm looking for clarification on what is causing this and is it okay to drive until i get my down pipe on it then tuned? Any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
What codes are you getting? Hard to say whats going on until we have some codes.
The light may not be related to the exhaust. Just putting a cat-back exhaust system on should not trip a light.

Yep a catback shouldn't trip a light. Did you do any welding with the exhaust on the car? I've not had it happen to me but if you don't have a good ground the welder can ground through some of the electrical components and damage them. Seems unlikely though. Step 1 is going to be to figure out what the CEL is for.
Thats what i was thinking, yes we did some welding, i welded the stock muffler to the after market piping. Im currently waiting on a scanner so i can get some codes. it just seems strange to me.
