Irritated

I truly love my R56. I enjoy every moment I am in it. Today for the second time, I heard my wife tell others that she is embarrassed getting out of it. I have no intention of getting rid of it, but none the less it I am tweaked. I will pick up another "less embarrassing" car in the future, but not at the expense of getting rid of this one. Just needed to say it.

Thanks all.

Why is she embarrassed about the MINI? I would only be embarrassed by a Fiat or Smart Car. MINI's are amazing and have a unbelievable tradition and past which makes the brand an attraction for hatchback enthusiasts.

OK, so I'll ask the inevitable question.....what does SHE drive that she considers a non-embarrassing vehicle?

First I have ever heard of anything like this...

Don't mean to hijack your thread Ive's but I can fully understand your "irritation" with your wife - I really love MY Mini too and spent half a day on the weekend giving it a really good detail (ok, even down to the insides of the rims!). She then complains that her car is dirty so I lend her mine today to get to work and proceed to clean hers on MY day off. When she brings mine back tonight I now see a lovely new scratch on the door from where the zipper on her handbag has rubbed against it as she was getting in and out of it......so yep Ive's I'm IRRITATED too!!!

Yes, women can indeed be strange animals. My wife was always embarrassed riding in our Corvette and later in our 911 Cabriolet. When it comes to the MINI she loves it. She keeps saying it's so 'cute'.

Wow. Can't say I've heard that before. I have heard plenty of Cutes, aweeees, teeny-tinys, and when I had my Electric Blue R53, baby blue Barbie car. But embarrassed? I understand the Monte, 'Vette, and Malibu are traditional "Mans" cars, but for a DD car, MINIs are great!

If it was me and my Fiancée was jabbing me with something like that I'd let her know it was extremely irritating. I would appreciate an ounce of respect that I picked this car and Love driving it. I mean its just plain mean to cut a guys ego down like that. No matter how small that guys ego is, don't cut it down with a comment like that.

Too cheap? Too small? It's not a bigass SUV like all the soccer moms? Everyone else drives American? Is it a conformity thing, aka she wants to drive the same thing as everyone else?

Trying to make some sense of this.

What an odd thing for her to say, I am guessing here, but is it the racing stripes that bugs her? I mean, I occasionally get comments that without the stripes it would be a "chicks" car, like the Porsche Boxster.

an interesting comment. I have never, ever thought of the Mini as a girl's car, because I knew Mini from off road-rally racing for years, as well as John Cooper's participation in F1....I am guessing Joe Q. Public has no clue about either of those things, however.

I just have no clue why they would be looked at that way....

My wife had a Boxster S for years and I never felt that way about it either....how anyone could think any car from Porsche is a girl's car? Next to Ferrari, they are the one automaker whose car designs and technology come right off the track and into the showroom...The Boxster is a direct descendant of the 550 Spyder for gosh sakes. oh well....

Now, VW Bugs with the flowers in the little holder on the dash...THAT feminine reputation I fully understand

Sad, but I think maybe her problems are bigger than your car.

There is a later scene where the local TV news reporter calls it the same thing while covering the police chase from a helicopter,.....

People are hard to figure out...

I can't figure out why people like or dislike different things...I have a 2012 Justa and everybody including my teenage daughter loves driving in it. My wife has a 2006 Boxster that my teenage daughter doesn't want to be seen in. I love both of the cars. Other than my choice of music, my wife loves driving in the Mini.

My wife picked out our Mini, and she loves it. But she hated my Crx, go figure.

I know a lot of people are uncomfortable with the extra attention they get (or think they get) driving/getting out of a more conspicuous car. By embarrassed, your wife might just mean she gets uncomfortable because she thinks that more people are looking at her getting out of the car than she's used to.
