This is my key and it is in a bad condition. Well its chromed colored ring is as you can see on the picture indicated by the red arrow! Can i find this ring as a part in order to dismantle the key and replace it?

They sell the rings on eBay. They have several colors including the original chrome you can choose from.

They also have them on Outmotoring and Mini Mania. Apparently, the rings were made of chromed plastic from 2007 until 2010. In 2011, they switched to a metal ring that did not have the chrome peel off. When I had my 2010 R56, I had the same problem you do. It's a known issue and I took the key to my dealer. They swapped out the chrome ring for the newer metal one in under 5 minutes, at no charge. You may want to give that a shot.

If you buy a replacement ring from Outmotoring, be aware that they are just slightly larger than the OEM ring. The colored ones are, anyway. It makes it a tight fit in the key's slot.

One strange thing with all those anodised aluminium rings is that they are broken and not unibody shaped. The original plastic one that is already given with the new mini is all one piece, isnt that strange?

The older chromed plastic rings are but not the newer all metal rings from MINI. They are split.

Sent from my XT926 using NAMotoring

So I was replacing the trim ring and came across an odd issue. We have 4 key fobs. 2 for 09 Clubman and 2 for 08 Justa. One of the keys for the 08 hatchback has a little plastic nub. The trim rings I ordered from Amazon weren't split exactly in the center so they won't fit properly. None of the other 3 fobs has that little bump on it. Has anyone else seen this? (BTW in case it matters, we bought the Clubman new and the Justa used this past summer.)

Twist the ring a little bit till it fits. If not just cut it.

You can't twist it because the part where the key slides in. I may have to cut it, but that will leave a big gap. Not as noticeable with the black ring, but more obvious with the brighter colors like blue.

Mostly I thought it odd that only one key has this bump and the other 3 don't.

key rings in assortment of colors including chrome (not aluminum or silver) for $4.99 shipped at Aliexpress. only downside is, it takes 14 business days to arrive and requires a signature. i had mine sent at work where there is always someone at the front desk to receive it. good luck! oh yea, fitment is perfect!

Looks like a newer key. That's how my 2012 Countryman key is with the metal ring (vs the plastic ring of my wife's 2010 Clubman).

Yeah, I went with Amazon where I got 5 for $15 with free shipping. Of course 2 don't exactly fit. As a few others suggested, I plan to just cut the little tab off the key.

I was wondering if maybe Mini had replaced one of the keys for some reason. That would explain why one has the little tab and the others don't.

I bought mine from Ebay earlier this week actually. I would have purchased from OutMotoring .. but at $20 for the ring, I thought, better not. Just got it in 2 days ago and I love it so far. Perfect fit, so I am pleased with my first ever, Ebay purchase.

We've purchased two from e-bay - one in blue and one in green. Fit great and no issues. I have a blue key ring thing with the blue key and my wife has a green set-up. Easy to tell who belongs to each key
