R56 Kick back point?
#1
Is it bad to push the gas pedal past the kick back point? Im talking about when you push the pedal down all the way and then it has that little point that you can push it further. It drops the tranny down to 2nd gear from 6th and the revs jump to like 5500 rpms immediately. Im just wondering if this is bad for the car, in a once in a while sense not all time of course. But it is such a thrill i must admit. And the ladies love it. dde09

At what speed are you doing this? At 70 in 6th gear the R52 S is spinning right at 3000 RPM. In 3rd at 70 it's spinning at just under 6000. I don't want to think of what would happen if I shifted down to 2nd from that speed. I normally downshift, in stages, between 3000 and 4000 RPM.
Manual or Auto, why not just downshift?

Whatever floats your boat. Our old Caprice wagon would do that when speed, RPM and torque requirements became abnormal once in a while when we had it loaded down with kids and stuff for a 2 week adventure thru the mountains but I never thought of it as entertaining. Just curious about that aspect of it is all.

It's called kick down, not kick back, btw.
There's nothing wrong with it as it's designed to be safe for the car. And it doesn't always shift into second, it shifts into the lowest gear that won't go over red line. It's pretty handy when passing on 2 lane roads or other times when you need quick acceleration and it's quicker than using the paddles to downshift a few times.
