R56 Touch-up Paint Quest:
Met a paint touchup guru at MITO last week and he said to go to Oreillys and have them mix up your paint code. Instead of using the provided brush, use a round tooth pick and dab just a small amount of paint on the area and leave it alone. He uses the ten foot rule. If you can't see it standing ten feet away, you're OK.
Yes, buy some micro paint dabbers. They are awesome at putting just the right amount of paint into a chip.

DO NOT use the paint brush in the touch up kit. It is too big and you'll get too much paint in the repair area!!!
For tiny chips I don't even bother with clear coat. You can't even tell the area is chipped after the base coat dries. No need to put a clear blob on it.
For huge scratches, that is a different story.

Hey guys! Is there any brand of touch up paints you recommend to buy, or are they all the same? I just bought a used 2007 MCS in Pepperwhite. And though the previous owner kept the car in excellent shape (with low mileage too) there are a few chips I'd like to touch up. Oh, and I'll also be looking into those micro brushes... thanks for that hint.
Thanks richardsperry! I'll try them out. The chips aren't bad at all. I'm sure most people won't actually spot them... but I know they're there. A little dab of touch up paint will cover them up nicely. I'm a first time MINI owner and would like to keep my Sidewalk looking and mint as possible. Thanks again.
