Plasti Dip Mini

Hello,

I just finished Plasti Dipping my Mini this weekend and I wanted to share a couple of before and after photos. I did the front grill, front headlight rings, and rear taillight trim.

I used 2 spray paint cans and put 7 coats on yesterday. I also let it sit overnight because my friend said that's how he got the best results with his Dodge Charger. It was unbelievable how well the over spray on the paint and taillights came off!

Can someone please tell me how to upload more than 3 photos at a time? I have about 40 and I think that they would answer a lot of questions that you guys may have.

Thanks!

It looks great.

It's alot of work to upload 40 photos. I know... I have a cool car photoblog with over 15,000 of the best car photos in the world that I publish at the following url for free:

http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f23/...ml#post2380713

Please check it out!

Anyway, just edit down the ones you need to about 12, and post 3 at a time!

looks great!

i will warn you, plasti dipping gets addictive....you will find yourself constantly looking for more stuff to dip.

as for the photos, i find it much easier to use photobucket.

i have plasti-dipped my chrome pieces also. you do know that all that trim is easily removed. it would have saved you a lot time to remove it rather than tape up most of your car.

I planned on plastidipping my tail light chrome and gas cap but Florida heat is killing me this weekend and the garage is about 5 degrees hotter.

Looks good. I am a big advocate for doing it right and was super skeptical about this new Plasti-Dip fad.

Then I tried it. I did all the same chrome trim pieces and they've been holding up fantastically. It's removable if you ever change your mind, and it holds up very well. And if you spray it right, it comes out very smooth.

So much easier to pit the IMG tags that Photobucket creates on here for us lazy folks.

Also, why did you choose to do it on the car and not remove? So much work to tape off...

While giving my MINI a deep clean on the interior this morning I noticed whoever owned it before me did some of this, it's peeling off now..luckily I think they stopped before they got too carried away. Ugh..

Yeah my advice - Take off the part being plasti-dipped if all possible to avoid any overspray, and cover up the rest of the car if it cannot be removed. Makes it much easier.

Looks like crap

I'd rather Vinyl it like some of the other people did on here, which looked fantastic in matte white or matte lime green!

Why? That car looks great....you cant go wrong with matte orange on black...... And it's instantly removable with no damage to the car.

Yea with that being said it's very easy to remove. I picked up a bottle of turtle wax's bug/tar remover for overspray. I wish you could take the whole gas cap off but it seems to swing right inside the rear quart panel. Any youtube vids out there of people removing the rear tail light chrome to spray? I would love to see one.

Though I wouldn't have done the side scuttles and grills(because then it really does look like a cheap "spray the whole car real quick" job), I don't see the issue.

It's a cheap paint color change that can be fun. And it peels off. Yeah, he should die a horrible death..... grow up.

To remove the tail light chrome, you take a butter knife and gently pry between the light and the trim, it's held on with a few tabs so pry gently and slowly work your way around and it should pop of easily with no damage.

If you need a vid I can try to take one later tonight if need be.

I'll take your word for it. And they just snap right back on?

@RobMuntean vinyl is more expensive than you think. This is 3M vinyl and if I remember correctly at the time my sponser told me they paid like 1300 dollars for this and there is "phantom grip limited slip" vinyl on the back hatch as well.

You can buy your own gun and go to town a few times a year on your car in different colors. I got road chips in my vinyl too...you can't patch vinyl. You can doctor it up as much as you want but it still won't look perfect. You can touch up plastidip. my .02

I know everyone has their own definition of what's tasteful. I respect that. That being said, plastidip is one of the greatest banes of the tuning scene. It looks cheap, unprofessional, and it also clings onto tiny dirt particles. I think experimenting with small pieces to try out a look before committing to much more professional looking vinyl wrap or paint is not a bad idea. However, painting a whole car is just going to be a giant pain in the 8ss down in the road. Have fun trying to take it off, especially on the roof. You'll be correcting the paint from so many micro scratches from trying to peel it off with your fingers down the road.

If anyone here is thinking about doing this to their car, please for the love of god end that thought. You will be very thankful later!

It still would look poop. I know I usually don't rag on people with their own ideas. For me if I wanted something matte finish or a different color, I will go have it painted. I wouldn't vinyl or plasti dip anything. Unless the vinyl is stripes for my car. Otherwise I'm good.

This says it all. Great story of why plasti-dipping a whole car is nonsense
