Automobile Mag spied 2014 Mini Cooper S

I'm kind of jealous this version is getting the rounded LED headlights. I can't put my finger on it based by their spy photos but the center console appears drastically changed as well.

Thoughts

Looks similar to the current R56. Slightly different angles on the front--I'll reserve judgement until I see it in person. They kept the J Lo butt, which I think was a regression compared to the gen 1 butt.

I could swear one pic shows a round purplish led interior light. Reading the article, it sounds like more and more of the interior is becoming more BMW-centric

I will also reserve judgement until I see it in person, but for now, it looks like I'll be hanging on to my R53 for awhile.

wow. I definitely don't like. Reminds me of the Peugeot mouth from a few years back.

I actually like it. I don't think the changes are as drastic as everyone thought. The interior is what I'm most anxious to see!

Now that I look more closely, those tail-lights suck. Too big.

I think you need to see this version in person. From the angle that the pictures were taken the car has a different personality than R53 and R56. It is difficult to get a feel of the scale. First impression is, Pass on this one. Perhaps I will like it better in person.

I don't like the mouth, at all. I prefer the boxy look of a mini and it seems they are trying to make it more curvy. Bad move on BMWs part I think. I hate how all cars now are trying to be the same. No more uniqueness it seems.

I will reserve judgement also until I see it in the flesh and can put my hands on it and drive it. What I do like though is it looks like yellow is going to be an available color again - which is terrific. I'd love to see them come out with several brighter FUN colors. I get so tired of seeing black white and silver cars.

There is significant distortion in the photos. I don't know what sort of camera setup they were using, but the image is pretty warped--the perspective is quite off to my eye!

The pics of the (still-disguised) F56 at the Ring show that the center section across the grille does not stick out in nearly as obnoxious a manner as implied by the pics in the Automobile postings. You can see it's there if you know to look for it (in profile) but not nearly as jarring as the images of the undisguised cars make it appear. The roofline also appears to flow much better in the Ring pics, among other things.

I'm pretty sure most of the "smashed its face in with a 2x4" look is actually due to lens distortion. Again. compare with the side-view from the Ring pics.

I don't think the car will look nearly as bad as it does from these images, frankly. I may not like it a huge amount, but I'm pretty certain it won't look as horrible as these pictures make it.

These pics are not distorted. These are typically shot with a very long lens from a distance.. Which.. Tends to remove distortion and flatten out the image. Wide lenses with close up shots distort things... Not long lenses like you see here.

That center bumper looks like this to me..

In this case, the "flattening out" is the distortion.

BMW/MINI responds to unflattering F56 photos.

Outrageous! MINI secretly photographed at private getaway.

Outrageous! MINI secretly photographed at private getaway. (07/2013) Show all media
Oxford. Aggressive and relentless papping is something British celebrities have had to learn to live with. Members of the Royal Family, as well as actors, footballers and top models are all familiar with the sensation of being caught in uncompromising situations, and now MINI is the latest victim. Absolutely unaware and without make-up, the youngest member of our family was caught by sensationalist photographers in a highly private moment. The young one was yellow and completely defenceless. We understand the worldwide interest in our family but it is not the British way to send such unfavourable pictures around the globe.
But like a good stiff-upper-lipped Brit, MINI shall not complain, although we would like to officially state that we are not flattered. The published pictures do not reflect our good looks any way. As every celebrity knows, those extra long telephoto lenses have the devastating ability to negatively distort all surfaces, lines and angles. Therefore our advice: next time come closer to the object of desire. If that doesn’t work, don’t worry, shortly you will have the opportunity to experience the MINI up close and personal, and to take pictures from all angles.

I actually like the look portrayed in the photos. To each his own, I suppose.

Did anybody else notice that they've moved the fuel filler to the other side? Odd.

Looking at the real 60's mini vs the new 14 MINI, it looks like the grill is clogged with a bumper on the new 14 MINI and the lower bumper line (the part with the brake ducts on the 14 and the 60's mini has a bumper in that location) looks like a suction cup second mouth on the new 14 MINI (drivers may hit this with parking stops). On the R56 the bumper split the grill and on the 14 it looks like the car has 2 grills. This needs to be seen in person. I am not sure but the windshield (windscreen) looks like it is raked back more and the hood is longer (not sure)? Perhaps the grill is just lower on the hood? The fuel cap is on the German side of the car. The shape looks less brick like and may have better Drag Coefficient?

I also like the look from the pics (I think the headlights are very interesting too), but I want to see it in person. I love the color, though.

looks like they are getting bigger, turning them into MAXI coopers and leaving the MINI in the pasture. BMW don't make this car any larger or heavier
