2013 MCS R56: Xenon Auto Level has stopped

I noticed recently when I start my car that that headlights no longer auto-level (dip down and back up) the way they used to.

This is a new 2013, R56 MCS and I've put under 3,000 miles on "Sheldon".

The headlights use to dip way down and back up.
Now they do this little nudge; barely a movement at all.

Is this a problem? The headlights are aimed properly. I just wonder if the auto-leveling has a real function or if this is just a "cute" feature of a MINI.

Thanks for your time and patience.

It's a real function that compensates for cargo load affecting the tilt of the headlights. It's even required by law in Europe for HID headlights. If yours stopped working, it will be covered under warranty.

So, if I'm not loading the car down anytime soon ... this issue can wait 'til my next oil change? Or, is it more important than that?

It's a safety feature to help prevent glare on opposite traffic and rearview mirrors. If your headlights seem to be pointed correctly while driving, I'd say it can wait.

Thank you! Yes, they appear pointed properly where the driver's side headlight is aimed slightly lower than the passenger side - which I've read is how it ought to be.

Thank you again!
