Odd no start issue

I just drove home from work in my mini cooper s with no problems. It sat for about 30 minutes and when I went to start it to run some errands I got a bunch of error lights. The check engine light and orange brake light are on. A brake wear sensor warning is also up. The brakes are not due for a change for about another 5-10 thousand miles.

When I try to start the car it will not crank. I am getting no noise at all. I don't have a code reader here so I don't have any code information right now. Does this series of errors ring a bell for anyone?

It is raining pretty hard here in central Florida with the tropical storm passing us by. My current guess is that some water got into the engine bay and is shorting something out.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

This happened to me before, check the sensor on your clutch. It easily comes detached.

A weak battery cause modern electronics to go crazy. You could have a shorted or dead cell. Check your battery.

Just got it back from the repair shop. The starter motor was completely dead. Unplugging the battery removed the brake and brake wear warning lights and they did not come back. The guy at the shop said this was very rare.

This car has had a pretty ridiculous repair record including both fuel pumps, clutch, and timing chain. Maybe I just have a lemon.

From what I've gathered a starter isn't one of the more common problems. (cross my fingers.) What's a starter cost?

Roughly $350 for the part and $150 for the install.
