R56 Cold Air Intake under $300?
Sounds like you have already made you decision. But i was in the boat last year, I decided to go with the DOS. It wasn't the cheapest one out there but boy am I impressed. For a 17 year old money was tight and this was well worth it. Idk if fuel economy jumped, but now when the windows are down and i step on the gas, the turbo spool sounds like a jet. I love it and now between shifts the blow off valve is distinctly noticeable. Happy Motoring!
Update: over in Marketplace a guy is parting out his aftermarket bits. DDM Full Race Intake (hood scoop type) for $250:

FWIW, I just installed the AEM cold air intake (hood scoop design). Attached to this post a performance chart made from before/after Dynolicious runs, merged together. It's not a true dyno, so take it with a grain of salt -- this is all calculated based on phone accelerometer data and assumed vehicle weight (3150 lbs, with fuel, kit's cart seat, and my chubby body). But the car is faster to redline and power peaks higher.

Yes. No problem.
To be more specific, I have used both the touch-free spray-a-bunch-of-soap-at-you kind and the evil-yet-so-convenient giant-spinning-scrubbing-cloths-on-a-track kind. In both cases, I have always (all cars) turned off the engine and let the machines do the work.
In any case, I've also driven through heavy rains with no ill effects. No tropical storms yet though.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to ping more questions at me.
