I chose NM for a couple of reasons....everything they make is well engineered and fits perfectly, I wanted something CF since I have CF all over the MINI, and I believe them as far as claims to increased performance.

I can't prove the HP/Torque claims as I haven't done a dyno....but the 10%+ claim to fuel economy is spot on.
I should paypal you some money, I need sway bar end links. Then we can meet up on a weekend.

I have the JCW box with a DoS dry filter and it is on par with the DoS system(my wife just installed her's). Both cars pull more and seem a bit faster. Nothing drastic but very noticeable. Before the current intakes, she was running an Alta an I had the DDRM street intake. The hot ambient air the Open CAI's sucked in decreased the performance. Go with either the JCW/DoS filter or the DoS cowl system. It is money well spent.

since the jcw box is about $270 would it be smarter to just spend the extra $30 on the DOS or is the jcw the the filter just as good? im liking the idea of not having to cut the bulkhead and go with the jcw box but if the dos is just a bit better and worth the extra money then the dos id probably go with

I would go with the JCW CAI AND Replace the OEM filter with an alternative. The OEM cotton filters are expensive and restrictive in my opinion. Plus you would have a OEM cai that will keep MINI off your back about warranty.

Be happy to try and get a deal for you....I tend to squeeze about 15-20% off their website list price. Anything for a MINI friend!

Just wanted to thank the OP and all the responses in this very helpful thread.

I, too, think that if I'm going to change out the CAI, it would be with the JCW and a replacement (hopefully K&N) filter.

I just want to be sure - it was posted
Keep in mind though that you won't make much of a power gain by switching to a CAI. Forced induction engines just don't work that way.
Forced induction being ...?
Are you talking about that inline mass air flow box?

Thanks!

Wikipedia: Forced induction is the process of delivering compressed air to the intake of an internal combustion engine. A forced induction engine uses a gas compressor to increase the pressure, temperature and density of the air. An engine without forced induction is considered a naturally aspirated engine.

Thanks to this thread, I too will save up for the JCW cai setup! Also on the topic of DOS cowl system setup, won't the filter suck up water on rainy days!?

Fs-07, it could essentially but that only seemed to be a huge factor of you live in a place with torrential rain fall. DoS makes a hydrophobic filter cover just for the people who live in Atlantis it's like 30 bucks I believe.

Is that the stock box that used the panel filter?

If so then right on, very clever idea!

The AEM is great the only downfall is finding a strut tower bar that fits AEM made a few but not anymore so if you are thing about adding a strut tower bar you might want to go another way but other than that I would not go any other way! If anybody has any info on a bar that will fit let me know!

Check out page 14 of this thread -- one guy has the AEM in with the JCW strut bar. He used heat to slightly reshape the intake from the hood scoop. No pics but he says it was fast, easy and no ill effects.
