I went to start my mini and the horn started to blow and wouldn't shut off until i got out and locked the car. Now anytime i even unlock the car the horn starts to blow. Any ideas on what it is and how to fix it.

Does your Mini have an alarm?

It doesn't have any active alarms systems on the car. The horn will stay blowing even after I start the car.

Ok i have read every part of the service manual, nothing has any notes about the horn constantly blowing. Went and bought a Actron scanner to check codes and its giving a "NO LINK" message. This one has me stuck. If anyone has any experiance with this type of thing please let me know. If not guess i will be forced to call the service people tomorrow and see if they know. If anyone thinks it may be something with the anti-theft that is built into the car I still don't see anything about the horn staying on for that. Any ideas are appreciated.

Sounds like you've got either the horn switch or the horn relay stuck open. If it's a horn switch problem, Bentley manual says you'll have to replace the entire steering column switch cluster. If it's the horn relay, you'll need to replace the relay panel/junction box fuse panel (right side of the passenger side footwell). The relay is soldered into the panel, and I haven't read of anyone being able to switch out just the relay. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to diagnose to figure out which is the problem.

Post back when you get the problem fixed.

As an additional note the fog lights come on when the horn starts to blow. Will keep this updated for future reference.

Ha!!!!! well after much head scratching it seems someone tried to break into my mini and messed up the initialization of the window. You know how the window drops down a little well mine wouldn't go back up. Seems that the horn is tied into that initialization somehow. I disconnected the battery, then reconnected the battery and rolled the windows all the way up and down several times which seemed to reset them. The problem is now resolved and my horn isn't blowing anymore constantly. Hope this may help out anyone else if they run into the problem. Thanks for the help.

Nice job figuring this one out. Was their any damage to the car/window/seals on the attempted break in?

Excellent detective work. Not that you didn't fix the problem, but I would also look at a failing battery if you haven't replaced it yet. On a 2009 MINI the original battery is probably on borrowed time. I have seen and read about some very strange electrical issues in MINI's when the battery was starting to die and this could certainly fall into that category. Certainly if you have any other electrical funny stuff going on, the battery should be a suspect.
