R56 Crashed my mini :(
Prove it.Glad the OP is OK. Great looking car and sad to see it like that. I'm with Yetti - use it as an excuse to upgrade to the JCW aero front bumper.

The first time I read your name I had to reread it as well...I'm too tired to go through the whole explanation as it would probably not make sense in my current state of affairs but it has to do with the whole humans don't actually read every letter in a word, but just pick out (usually the first and last) letters and make a connection to a word that they have stored deep within the crevass of their mind.
....How would I go about getting an upgrade for a replacement? Just communicate this with the claims agent?
Ok, I'll jump on...
A SUV slammed on the brakes and you in a MINI didn't stop? Really? I'll put that totally on you.
You were following too closely, and / or you weren't paying attention.
Anyway, learn your lesson, and move forward...lol

Basically someone cut into the off ramp (double lane off ramp) from the left lane and about 5 people jammed on their brakes. I did too, except the SUV (4th car) jammed all the way to zero. Its my fault sure, but you can see that I clearly tried to avoid the SUV when I realized she was coming to a full stop.
Im worried about the adjuster coming and just judging the cosmetic damage. As of now the car will go into gear and start but there is no power to the wheels.
If you want to upgrade damaged parts, talk to the shop doing the repairs before they order any replacement parts. Tell them what you want. Be willing to pay the difference between the standard part and your upgraded part. That easy.
That would be a deal that the shop would do. Instead of ordering part number X, they would order Y and you would pay the difference. So here are the prices form Sewell and there is a small difference and you might need come different trim pieces but if it can be done and you want to, do the legwork and work with the body shop.

I really love PB&J.
I just have that thing where you read too quickly sometimes and it turns into dyslexia, Mr. Chili Red & Pepper White & Jet Black
I would be thoroughly shocked if they don't total that out.
Glad to hear you're okay and it doesn't sound like the situation called for airbags regardless.
Keep a longer following distance whenever possible.

Wow.that is quite a bit of damage. Doesn't look the bad from the photos but maybe the damage to the drivetrain threw it over the top..the whole not being able to move thing.
If you have any performance parts you are looking to sell..you should get to them before the insurance company takes the car. As I understand it the car just needs to be whole.
When my old eclipse got totalled out (flood damage) State Farm let me keep my rims (i out the winter steelies on there)...took off intake and throttle body etc...aftermarket radio...etc etc..
Good luck....I hope you get enough in your settlement to get a new car.

I have a JCW strut bar and Alta intake and Rear sway bar. Prob cant get the rear sway bar. Maybe insurance will take a receipt? Green Mirror caps and Green Union Jack scuttles. I am not sure if they will let me take random OEM parts.
Guy said it was totaled cause the engine damage is severe.
Now its either another Mini or a BMW or Subaru.
You can take whatever you want...but you have to do it right there. How comfortable are you jacking up a car in a yard and unhooking the bolts in the mud or whatever conditions the yard where the car is. if you take OEM things off and they see that they will deduct value from your final settlement for prior damage...so you can't take like the front bumper per se...smaller things like a cup holder or small trinket for nostalgia reasons...would be fine. Remember the old Subaru commercial where the guy pulls the shift ****? They are usually okay with stuff like that...always best to ask.
I don't think they will reimburse you for aftermarket accessories unless you had it insured with some sort of extra coverage for modifications but never hurts to ask. Would be nice if we knew what yard the car was going to so you could go in and buy your stuff back at rock bottom prices...
Mirror caps you can take if you replace them with stock units. Call around and see if anyone can get you some overnight..or hit up the mini dealer
