Might be a stupid question...

I tried searching but didn't really see what I'm looking for. For those who don't know me, I have a 2012 MCS, and it is my first Mini, my first non-domestic, and there is one thing I haven't seen a lot of that is striking me as odd. I'm not seeing a lot of talk about tuning. All of the other vehicles I have owned with a power adder have been supercharged, even the N/A cars i've owned if you swap anything other than a CAI or cat-back, people recommended a tune. I swapped a CAI, mid pipes, high flow cat, cat-back exhaust, upper plenum, and throttle body on my Ford Lightning and the truck ran super lean until I tuned it. From what I'm seeing on here people are modifying intake paths, doing full exhaust, etc and I'm not reading anything about tunes.

Do these cars have that much of an adaptive programming that they do not require a tune and will learn the new maps or is it just something that isn't really mentioned but people do? I'm hoping to start making performance modifications within the next couple of months and this is something that I'm trying to budget into the mods. Any information that could be provided would be GREATLY appreciated. Again, I do sincerely apologize if this is a silly question or has been asked to death but I couldn't really find anything on it.

Have a great day all!

I see plenty on here about tunes. The most common device is to use an AccessPort. Try this link: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3605129

edit: Just noticed you have a 2012, though. Not sure that they've cracked those yet and you might have to get it bench tuned if you're in a hurry.

Yes, lot of people tune. It seems that most people use the AccessPort on models older than a 2011. In 2011 MINI built a new engine that they put in all of their non-JCW cars.

This new engine is not compatible with the AccessPort and must be bench tuned for now. Here's a thread with more info on which companies are doing tunes for the new engine (N18). I got NM's tune a few days ago and couldn't be happier!

I had seen threads like that but to me it looked like more of a, "oh here you can do this too," as opposed to a, "if you do this, you MUST do this too," type of thing.

Thanks :-)
