R56 What to do with my brake calipers?
Easy-peasy.... the kit comes with spray cleaner. the grime and grease just pours off. Wipe them down, let them air dry for an hour or so. Brush on with the brush in the kit. By the time you are done with the fourth, the first is dry, give them another coat... presto.
All you need is good eyes to brush the edges and nooks and crannies without getting any on your rotors. And you need to pop off a couple of spring-loaded clips and pop them back on when you're done.
When I got some work done to my wheels and tires the shop hit the calipers and rotors with a high temp flat black spray paint. They did it on the car and painted the WHOLE rotor. After a few stops the rotors were back to shiny where they needed to be but the rest was all still black. It only took a few minutes and they look good. They just hit them with some cleaner first then went to town on them. I’m in AZ so we didn’t have to deal with any rust. A buddy of mine had the same thing done on his close to a year ago and it still looks like they just did them.
I agree, caliper covers are lame! Definitely just throw some black or color of your choice caliper paint on them.
As far as brand preference for spray paint I would go with Dupli-Color all the way, krylon or rustoleom doesnt seem to lay down as evenly or smoothly.

Found out an interesting bit of information regarding authenticity! The stock R56 calipers are actually the R53 JCW calipers.... So maybe do paint them red... but where to get the sticker???? Maybe the dealer has some???
Hey they look good... I think I will go with red and slap some JCW decals on. I think the other paint jobs I've seen done in red were just poorly done, but after looking around a little more I've found some good ones, yours included
Hmmmm.... not so sure a out all MINI colors... hmmmm...
Black Eyed Purple
Hot Orange
Spice Orange
Purple Haze
Mellow Yellow would be a little iffy
But hey... MINIs are quirky cars anyway. So why not?!

My hubs cracks up whenever any of us say something like - I don't want to over do it - Well, that would look tacky - I'm not sure if these colors will look good together...
He can't believe what we do to our cars.
He can't believe that I intended to do what I've done to mine!

Smart boy.

My husband likes LW now and he really enjoys club events, MOTD, etc.
I'm wondering if the Countryman Coupe can get him out of his Avalon?
Um, probably not...
I am looking forward to seeing you at M&M 8 in Orlando.
Is it true that you can disarm the seat belt chime?
I have heard that painting the calipers involves taking all four wheels off at the same time. That is beyond my current technical capability, unless I set up some cinder blocks in the back yard.
My next MINI is going to be a JCW Coupe. Get him to drive one and he just might come around to MINIs.
Hubby can help. A set of Jack stands and a hydraulic Jack and he and you are set. They are not expensive. Another good thing about MINIs... you don't need commercial grade equipment to work on them. Ha.

You don't have to do all 4 at once, you can do just two wheels at a time.
Alright.... so no caliper covers... no problem. So I'm thinking black caliper paint to help them fade into the back. I like red but all the factory calipers I've seen painted red look like garbage. I would maybe go for silver or chrome as well, anything to get ride of the stained pot metal look.
Has anyone painted their calipers... layed down, say a "MINI" decal and then did high heat gloss paint over the caliper again? Would this end poorly?

I told my friend at the shop. "Do whatever you think will make it pop from behind my CCW's. I guess we'll see what he ended up with....
I have StopTech BBK and the front calipers are being repainted. My wheels are anodized red so the stock red was not gonna happen. I want them to stand out. You'll see what I ended up with.

It might sound crazy but I'm really considering painting them in chrome... I think I would have to put down a high heat primer, then the chrome, then the decal, then a high heat clear coat..... I can't seem to find a legit high heat chrome paint or silver metalic???? I got a few months to sort it out before I can get anything done and posted, but I'll be more than happy to see what they do with yours
