J.D. Power 2012 Mini Rating

Well, we're third from the bottom, at least the Fiat and Smart Car are worse than our little babies... Click on charts and scroll down a little.

Meh... I had a rattle in my door. My friend's new Subaru almost set the car on fire with a malfunctioning seat heater. I'll take the door rattle please.

It would be interesting to see the S and justa rated separately.

I wonder if the higher reported problem rating too has to do with the free regular maintenance that is provided so mini owners feel more inclined to bring their cars in more often for smaller problems that most people who feel like they would have to pay to have the same problem resolved would be hesitant to bring the car in for service due to not wanting to pay and just deal with it

I don't think it has anything to do with it, free maintenance is just that, regularly scheduled maintenance like oil changes. Actual problems are covered under the regular warranty just like any other car.

If they rated personality, our cars would always be on top!

It's funny, MINI is currently running a radio commercial that says they are "first in JD Power owner satisfaction".

So no correlation b/w reliability and satisfaction.

When I look at this (I'm on MINI #3 and I've owned a Smart) I see small/compact cars make up the bottom 3. Thats interesting to me.

I've owned a '92 and '09 Honda Accord. Neither car squeaked and rattled as much as my 2011 MCS... but then again, neither of those cars put a smile on my face as much as the MINI.

Minis are cute, fun and expensive / high maintenance like that cheerleader you dated in high school. Sure you could date that super smart girl that got an A in biology class but what fun would that be?

It's an improvement from last year, when MINI came in dead last.

JP Power's 2011 Vehicle Dependability study - MINI is the WORST

I've had my fair share with my MCS...so many times where I think of trading her in but then I realize that I love her to much. I'm too attached more than ever before(never had this problem with any car but her). So can't complain to much.

Tell me about it... I actually went as far as trading her in for a 2012 Lexus IS 250 last August and when I realized she was still sitting on the Lexus lot a month later I went and traded in my Lexus on my own Mini. Almost a year later I still have my Mini and don't miss the Lexus at all!

It's funny that most people buy these cars just because they are "cute". There are a lot of MINI owners out there who don't even take into account the personality and true motoring enjoyment aspect. Give me a few quirks any day over a boring econobox! Oh, and by the way, it's not cute...it's mean!

Note that J. D. Power has several different vehicle ratings/rankings; Initial Quality (for new cars), Dependability (reliability over time/miles), and Owner Satisfaction. Another consideration is how a car performs in hands-on tests as done by Consumer Reports and car magazines.

There does seem to be a positive correlation between reliability and owner satisfaction, but it's modest.

I can't believe that the latest radio add says that JDP gave Mini a good score on...... Customer something...... bla bla bla.

When I looked for the report all I found was poor scores.
