The Stealth Roof

So while I was waiting for my turbo oil feed line to come in, I was staring at my car and then was struck by, I wonder what my roof rack would look like in black? So I then proceeded forward to get out the ol' can of plasti-dip for a trial run and here are the results.

What are your opinions? Sorry for the crappy pics, the lighting was horrible, I will try and get some better ones once my car is up and running again.

looks good. You should do the silver inserts on the side plates too. I'm pretty sure they pop out. I know I've seen other people vinyl wrap them.

i just did, it looks a lot better. i was trying to decide what would look better with the mini logo on the side of the foot pack, whether just painting over it, or figure out some design around it, but just painting over it with plasti-dip looks pretty good. they are embedded a little so it gave it a little contrast.

Looks great! I agree to the silver inserts as well. I Just picked up a roof rack the other night and want to do this to them. How well do you think the Plasidip will hold up on the bars when your taking on and off attachments and what not?

I don't think it will hold up that great. It chipped a little just putting my bike attachments on, so I'd imagine with too much going on and off it would chip pretty easily. I pretty much always have my bike attachments on so I probably wont be able to give you a for-sure answer, but I also know that I put my bike on it today and my bike tires actually rubbed some of it off on the inside of the sled, which I expected. But when it gets bad enough I'll just throw another coat on.

I did the silver inserts and also got some black rims on it this week, so when I get it washed up tomorrow I will take some pictures and post em.

I'm a little late to the party, but the black racks look much better. I may be the one Walk was referring to who vinyl wrapped his rack inserts. I wrapped both the inserts and cross bars in carbon vinyl and then proceeded to plastidip my Thule bike trays.

The plasti had been holding up relatively well (minus a few snags from the tire trays and down tube arm), but after my "bike vs. garage" incident, the plastidip was trashed.
Instead of repainting them, I indulged myself and had each tray powdercoated satin black. Wow! What a difference! Beautifully smooth and durable finish. 20 times the price of a can of plastidip, but well worth it in my book. I should post pics.
