I would also like to know the same info. Did evolveodify the map that deals with the temperature readings or did they just disable the ECU boost cut feature. This comes down to 2 things: people who have upgraded there turbo and internals to handle over 22psi of boost would want a tune that disables the safety feature because their modifications allow for a higher boost. But for us that hit the 22psi cut feature due to creeping this tune would not be for us because we dont want to see boost levels in the 20 range and this feature is saving our motors. I don't want to disable it, I just want to find out why my boost creeps from the 17psi my tune and modifications are setup for to the unexpected/undesired 22+ psi that we're experiencing. I wonder what psi it would creep up to if we didn't have the safety cut.

If I had an upgraded turbo/internals/injectors to run above 22 psi then I would outgrow what the accessport has available to me, which I think is what the evolve tune/other pro tuners may have designed their tunes for-remove the 22psi boost cut feature so someone can run higher levels of boost than what the stock "safety" features allow. I'm sure it would be just as frustrating to drop thousand of dollars into the motor to run 26 psi but the ECU won't let it reach it's potential.

My problem isn't the "22 psi boost cut" feature, it's the fact that I only want to run at 17psi but for some reason the boost creeps up to 22 psi. A tune that deletes the safety precautions installed isn't a viable option, figuring out what is causing the boost to reach "critical" levels is the goal I'm looking for.

The issue that I'm seeing is that with it happening to older minis and not to newer minis means that it could be anything along the system: old hardened/leaking vacuum lines, bad plungers in the vacuum pump, something old in the wastegate, ect.

If we could go back in time and try this tune on my car when it had 0 miles, would it still do it? That is the question at hand. Had something just worn out and is causing the issue, or has the issue been there since the beginning? Alta explains that they developed these "staged tunes" on an 07 mini on the dyno with their performance parts, so I doubt they would engineer/release a tune that exhibited this phenomena, they would have tinkered with the tune until it was perfect.
I have all of the exact parts (intercooler/exhaust/intake/BOV spring/accessport) and the exact year that they developed their tunes on, so what has changed since development and now? Time, stress, wear, and factory updates on the ECU from the dealership during regular service. Maybe the factory ECU updates are the problem. Maybe mini changed something on one of the factory maps after alta developed the tune that now doesn't "play nice" with Alta's modifications. Or maybe we're back to the theory of a mechanical issue.

Hopefully this gets people's attention away from "check all your piping connections for boost leaks" a lot of us have spent hours tightening factory clamps (probably far beyond factory torque specs) with no luck. The next option is comparing specs of our mechanical components to "new" specs. If a pressure test was done on our aged wastegates or vacuum components and compared to how they were new or ones on a newer mini, would we see a difference?

Any ideas?

It may be possible that your wastegate actuator (spring or vacuum canister) is giving you problems. If your wastegate can't dump enough exhaust to keep the turbine from accelerating beyond it's max speed, it results in boost creep (uncontrolled boost), 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22. ECU says "I've had enough" and saves the turbo.
It may not be actuating fast enough, but can also be tune related.
Anyway, something else to checkout.
Your diverter valve and tune should pretty much govern how much boost you have available. Good luck.

My second guess is, it's the tune.

I wonder if it could be the programing files given to us from alta that is a written instruction that tells the ECU what parameters to run the engine at?

I was just being a sarcastic dork on my last post but I have been on the same page with ThePenl since his first reply and especially after the very useful info in the second. I had pretty much already came to the same conclusion on my own before this thread. Unfortunately I simply don't have another $1,000 to spend on my car right now. I wish I did. If it I have been wrong in replying to this discussion to explain things how I understand them I apologies for wasting everyone's time. Maybe we should start a new thread called "Why 07+ MCS owners using Access port tune experience boost cuts and how it can be fixed"

No offense taken guys. Just trying to help. Its a fact that i tried so many remedies for the boost cuts and if I add myself what i have been doing the last three years, most of you will be bored to death...
You've got the waste gate speed reaction right in your previous post. This combined with the safety function of the ECU is the problem.
Now, you can not use a different waste gate (activated under vacuum) and they are not known to fail prematurely, so that leaves us with the ECU. Tuning companies all over the world have been offering tunes with boostcut problems, it's not a unique privilege of the accessport. It is beyond me why Alta or every other tuner prides themselves for offering tunes which have the potential to kill their customers on the road. I experienced so many boost cuts over the last years, all of them frustrating, but in some cases my life was in danger too, when trying to overtake a truck on a twisty mountain road for instance. Or when participating on hill climbs as a safety car and needed the extra power to correct the direction of the car to avoid falling from a cliff.
Non functional tunes are not tunes for me...they are just junk!
Now, I own my Mini from new. It's also a 2007 model like yours, I have been servicing it in very short intervals with new oil, spark plugs, filters etc every 5000miles, I regularly beat the sh@t out of it and done till today 50000miles. I have had no other problems with it.

Guys, concentrate on the tune. This will save you big money on the long run. No boost cut is consequent free...not good for your engine, not good for your safety, not good for your wallet.

Honestly...

Great videos! It looks like you enjoy driving hard as much as I do. I also maintain my mini with same oil change every 5,000. So your Boost gauge in x100kpa correct, and you are reaching the 1.65 mark? If I convert that to PSI it is 23.925psi. That is very high boost for stock pistons and rods with a 10.5:1 compression ratio, but I bet that thing screams. I wouldn't feel safe at that level until I instal some forged pistons and Corrillo rods although when my boost creeps it gets close sometimes for a spit second before it cuts. This kind of manifold pressure is what I am trying to stay away from. Please correct me if I am wrong on my calculation. Thank you again for your time and comments, I to wasn't getting bothered, I just don't like wasting other peoples time.

Your calculations are right. One of the tunes I use, the one being on the videos, is at 24psi overboost. I even run, when the competition at hill climbs dictates it, a tune with 27psi... You should hear that one screaming...
All these high boost tunes are used when competing, not for every day use. On my normal commutes the boost is 17psi. It depends on me, which boost to run without any frustrating boostcuts.
Normal, stock, factory fitted pistons and rods are used. No problems so far and honestly I am not expecting anything tragic to happen. The engine runs so smooth even with the 27psi tune with perfect AFRs and not even a suspicion of preignition. However, this is not what I would recommend for everyone to do.
I am taking my chances, I can afford to, and really it's all part of the competition. You have to pay in order to be able to play...

If I had the extra cash I would change the internals before boosting that high. Keep in mind if you loose a rod or even a piston bad enough you may need an entire engine vs just changing out the pistons, rods, and bearings. I think its better to pay to beef up the components then play vs pay a little-play-blow up the engine-pay much more. I actually was thinking of purchasing a running low mileage engine to modify while using my current engine to drive with, and installing the modified engine after it is finished. I think I could do it for around $4,000, but I decided it made more sense to spend my money on a new house. I know I know my priorities are messed up.

Thanks for listening...(for your own good)
I would believe this except for this was starting to happen to me within the last few months before my NM tune. It is definitely more noticeable now with my NM tune. It's even MORE noticeable when i have the Sprint booster on and step on the gas. Forget if i have the sb set on "race" mode. I blew my discharge pipe off the intercooler 15 mins down the road from NM-eng right after i set it to red on the SB. I would bog down between 3.2k -4k if i got on the throttle while alone in the car. This past weekend i had my father with me, he asked if i was still having the issue so i stepped on the throttle to show him. This time it happened after 4k. I attribute this to the temp being cooler than it has been for awhile. I'm not 100% sold on it being the tune. So as a basic overview, i understand that this is most likely overboosting, but something is causing it prior to a tune.

Hey everybody was hoping to find some help. Installed a alta bov spring and the alta hotside boost tube today. My car seems sluggish off the line. was hoping someone could direct me as to what could be the problem. I'm Letting the car cool and will re-do the install again but any pointers or suggestions as far as boost loss while accelerating?
