Hi Everyone! My friend drunkenly slammed the door on the secret compartment and now it is stuck closed. I have no idea how to fix this because I don't see any screws or other methods of access to the compartment. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I might get the door/hinge mechanism unstuck when it's shut closed? Thank you.

 

You just have to push on it and wiggle it. Mine gets stuck once in a while but a little wiggling and it’ll open. If you have a credit card, you can order a new one...lol.

No, seriously, if you have a credit card, you can slide it under and use it to pry as you wiggle.

Thanks Mark! That worked, but now it's stuck open. :/ I'm thinking the gears on the hinge mechanism are misaligned or something. I might try to remove the whole thing later this week and see what's going on underneath there.

 

The secret compartment is standard in the US and Canada but many other parts of the world it is part of an extra cost "Storage Options Package" and as such will not open if the package is not purchased.

All the operating parts are installed in all cars and there is a spring clip on the side of the gear mechanism that has two positions. 1. allow it to open, 2. keep it closed.

So be very careful when you take it out and test it. Make sure the spring clip is in the correct position and test it before you put it back, other wise you will have to tear the glove box out to get it back out to adjust the spring clip.

Ask me how I know this?????? It happened to me. Pain in my butt to get fixed.
