R56 Pothole Shenanigans Then Warning Lights
Pothole Shenanigans Then Warning Lights
So today on the way to work I hit a pretty decent size pothole that I couldn't avoid that made the whole front of the car sharply jump to the right. I lost no power, the wheel(s) aren't bent and the tires are fine BUT a warning light (triangle with exclamation point inside) and "brakes" lit up in the tach. I shut the car off and restarted it with everything as normal and the car seems unscathed.
So what happened? Just a shock to the system from the jolt? From the "skip" sideways maybe different (weird) wheel speeds to confuse the ABS sensors? I'm not too concerned but just curious if this is somewhat common. The pothole was certainly a good jolt but I did not expect warning lights in the dash.

I think you may be right about the "jolt" being hard enough to shock the system. The brake sensor and wheel speed sensor both took a hard hit. The wheel speed sensor uses a magnet which may have been affected momentarily by the hard hit, but the brake sensor I'm not sure about. If the light went out and you have no mechanical damage I think you should be fine. Just make sure you check the inside edge of the wheels for bends, also the inside sidewalls on the tires for impact breaks (bubbles, or a big bump)
Hope everything works out
