R56 $283 for a new battery?!?!?
Better to get a new battery now than to have the car not start this winter (IMO). 5-6 years is above and beyond the call of duty.
Some batteries last longer than others, even if they are the same brand/model.
The stock batteries in our 2001 Dodge Ram lasted ten years. The one in my 2005 Corrola is 6 years old.
Had to have the battery replaced in our 2010 Camero after 1 year.

There's a lot of BS that comes out of the SAs mouths. Fact of the matter really is that a lot of the time they're not trying to screw over the customer, but it's simply because they're the answer man. They feel pressured to have an answer even if it's crappy.
If I want a good answer, I usually email my SA; takes him off the spot and I might ask him to ask the mechanics if I feel like he's over his head. Just my 2c.

taking apart and re-install battery 2007 Mini 56 Coupe Engine N12
Here is picture of battery section. From what I read here, all have to do is:
1) unbolt the screws to release the cover
2) remove the rubber molding Sealing windshield panel strip
3) pull cover up to release plastic snaps
4) Take off negative and then positive cable.
Any other step I missed?
I have the original battery that came with car. It is not turning over and I am very far from dealer. I am on Oahu, we only have one dealer.
I guess the trick is to get a match with the size of battery.
Costco does not carry it. I do see
Oreilly has Super Start® Extreme - Battery 47EXTJ Line: SSB
If that does not fit, I can go to Sears, Walmart or Napa.
The car I have is 2007 Mini 56 Coupe Engine N12 automatic trans, hard top.
Thank you for all your help in advance.

I just had the original battery replaced in my 2007 MCS 6sp at the dealer. I asked if it was the original and he said it was. I bought her on 12/12/12 with 81,50 miles on the clock. Last week at 84,00mi she failed to start. Jumped her and she kicked right over. For the next several days she acted as if she was laboring to start. Figured: alternator, starter,or battery. Took her to the dealer and they said bad cell in the battery. Estimate $350 to replace it. End result was 1/2 hour labor $55 and $231 for the battery ($286 final bill). When he said it was the original battery (6 years of service) I wasn't too disappointed. All's well now. Agree with others with parts pricing being outrageous. They wanted $400 bucks to replace fog lights. Amazon parts price $68!!!! Nuff said!!
Just my 2 cents.
